How times change.

In 1971 I parked my mini adjacent the Palazzo Poli one evening, and strolled the few yards around to the Trevi Fountain. We weren't alone, but it was reasonably quiet.

Tourism has steadily increased to around 30,000 people a day, and when I took the camper in May 2012, I parked outside the city, caught the train, but still found the piazza full to busting.

Today, Auntie Beeb reports:-

Similar (sort of) experience in Paris, 1982 we hired a Bedford CF based motor home for a post Falklands return of a couple mates so went to France for a few weeks.

We were able to park close enough to the Eiffel Tower that we could keep an eye on it from the top. I can’t imagine I could do or even would want to try to do the same today!

Coincidence. CF Bedfords, that is. Nowt to do with any fountain.
I met Erindoors while I was working for a company using CF Bedfords.
She worked in the LOOK garage, above the magic roundabout in Hemel Hempstead. We had an account there. While I polished my one chat up line, ( thankfully, I’ve not had to use it again since) , every van I drove, always had a full tank.
