TV Program

Motorhoming with Merton and Webster new series starts tonight on Ch.5 at 9 o’clock. I thought that the last series was generally quite entertaining.
I think that you'll find that it started last Sunday, when they visited Cornwall.

Toe curlingly patronising. 'We're off grid, so no plug in, but apparently we've got something called a Leisure Battery' Stuck with it for 15 mins or so, mainly to test my resilience, but had to admit defeat

I have been a Paul Merton fan for years, and enjoyed his 'Improvisation' Theatre performances, as well as his TV programmes on the silent film era Comedy Heroes, In both of the latter, he was engaged, witty, well-informed, and provided great entertainment. Last night was the exact opposite, apparent indifference/disinterest 'just turning up for the money' impression

What a contrast with the couple of M/Home Sue Perkins did recently in USA, where she launched herself into the US RV scene full tilt, found really interesting and oddball characters to talk to, with minimal/none 'it's all about me, I'm the 'sleb' self importance. Such is life

He's ok in minute doses, I've got crap news for you is his best platform, but we all know its scripted.

I also watch a History programmes and saw the first episode of Tony Robinson's series on the Pharoahs and the Pyramids on PSB America last week. This was another of the 'bouncy, it's all about me, I'm the 'sleb' productions, and it dawned on me that, back the heyday of 'TimeTeam', his role was to be the link between the rather dryand serious archaeologists and the Viewers

But in the intervening years, the Academic Professional has usurped the role, by developing their own informal presentation skills, and can dispense with the 'sleb colleague, whilst adding a deeper technical information contribution to the Show. Profs Alice Roberts and Brian Cox are the leading lights, but Dr Janina Ramirez is a very enthusiastic and capable Presenter, and she is very engaging when looking at the work of earlier archaeologists/explorers, she acknowledges that their work met [or even set] the standards x years ago, but that those practices now fail to meet 21st Century academic criteria

Perhaps the media doors are closing on the likes of Paul Merson and Tony Robinson, whilst Hugh Dennis has changed his 'Viewers' Link' role to be the 'sleb 'Can we dig you garden up' door knocker and modern equivalent of Tony Robinson in asking questions of the archaeologists that draw further elements of 'dig knowledge' for Viewers. It's quite a subtle shift of role in the Presenting, but it seems to work very well

After watching the first instalment did anyone else notice that the rear corner bumper on the drivers side was missing and a big scrape and dent behind the drivers door. Collision damage waver?:)

I liked the one where they parked on the YELLOW hash markings outside the Lifeboat Station and then wandered off to see some local produce. Might try it next time we go Lifeboat Station hunting 😉 we have found 98 so far.
