Two more pretty Lithium batteries arrived today.

The main reason for the continued scepticism about lithium batteries is the nonsense that continues to be spouted about how many cycles they last and how few cycles a lead acid battery lasts. If they only realised that an honest set of figures would still give Li an advantage over Pb in CERTAIN applications and there is no need to claim 50000 cycles at 120% discharge. Just gives the legitimate part of the industry a bad name

It is the charge cycle comparision which annoys me most as well I have to say in terms of benefits (there are clearly a few benefits of Lithium over Lead, so no need to overegg so extremely one aspect that can taint the believeability of the others)

My (AGM) Batteries have an official 600 Cycles at 50% DOD - but who takes their batteries down to the minimum all the time? I've just checked my Battery Bank before I typed this .... after 13 months I have "used up" 7 cycles. On that basis, the extended charge cycle count of Lithium will be of zero benefit to me.

Interesting thread and good information, however I am not sure about the use of 'pretty' in the title, do you think you ought to get out a bit more ?

I've got this picture of you swiping left or right on Battery data sheets.

Paul.

Went a bit bonkers again we somehow always find a way of making somthing positive into a negative when talking about batteries ?

Agree Wully, I think it's totally up to Rae what he fits in his van.
Lithium batteries are a major step forward in an industry that has not progressed much for decades and it takes progressive people like Rae to promote the development.
Sadly there will always be criticism of progress for whatever reason, be it fear of new things or just plain jealousy.
Well done Rae, good on yer.

Bottom line is if I could afford them I would buy them, but I can't so I'll have to stick with my AGMs

Regards,
Del

Today I installed my 12v heating pads under my Relion LiFePO4, at 30W heating it could be a bit of a slow process but they only cost £4 so I am not risking too much. The battery compartment is on the warm air circuit so I adjusted the outlet to point more directly at the battery which will probably be more effective anyway. Once the mh is warmed up should not be a problem anyway.

“installed my 12v heating pads under my Relion LiFePO4,”

Would these need to be Powered by a lead acid battery until Lithium one warm enough ?

No, the battery can supply electricity below freezing (probably more efficiently than a lead acid one) it is only recharging that is better above freezing.
