V5

Hi, my daughter has just took a photo of my logbook that has been returned from DVLA, unfortunately I'm in Spain until xmas. When I bought the motorhome I was told that the maximum gross weight would be 3650kg, which did not give me enough of a payload. So I had modifications done Including airride fitted to the back axle and got JR consultancy to do an engineer's report and do the paperwork.

I also had a new VIN plate sent to show that overhaul weight with load would now be 4050KG. But looking at the second page of the V5 it still mentions 3650KG although it does mention 4050KG as revenue weight further up the page, can anyone advise if DVLA have made a mistake as I was hoping to set off in January to Europe with it and don't want to incur any problems. I've seen other posts were other owners have had problems with DVLA not putting the correct weight in the right place on the V5, I've no idea so would be grateful if those with more knowledge could advise please. I have attached the photo of the V5 my daughter has sent me.

I'm still non the wiser sorry, does that mean that I am ok with the 4050kg they have put as the revenue weight as I thought that should have been in the bit were it mentions gross weight which they have left at 3650kg

I' would just phone DVLA
And get it from horse mouth.

Thanks I thought they will be some forum members who have replated there vans could advise if they had done it right, revenue weight I would have thought was the figure they use for vehicle excise duty and that the 4050kg should have been in the gross weight box instead of 3650kg. Hope I wrong as I can't deal with it until I return home which would hold me up setting of in January if I had to wait another 5 weeks for DVLA to correct the mistake.

This is from another forum

After the simply process of getting our Globecar Campscout Revolution weight increased to 4500kg the DVLA make the usual mistake!
I sent of all of the relevant paperwork to them and after reading various threads on here made a point of asking them to ensure they changed the Max Permissible Mass as well as the Revenue weight. I waited four weeks and gave them a call, a very helpful lady informed they would chase it up and I should have the new V5 in a few days. Two days later the new V5 turned up with the Revenue weight at 4500kg but the Max Permissible Weight still at 3500kg!
Another call to the DVLA and 45 minutes later they still cannot confirm that the vehicle can be driven weighing over 3500kg legally or not, they cannot confirm when if it all I would get another V5 with the correct information. They gave me a case number and assured me somebody would call me back the next day with all the answers.
2 days later having heard nothing I phoned again. They had no record of my call or that somebody would call me back. 45 minutes of explaining and repeatedly telling them this had nothing to do with road tax but the maximum legal weight of the vehicle and politely refusing to go away until I had answers I got the usual delay tactic that they couldn't get through to the relevant department. I them got them to confirm that the call was being recorded and how I could get a copy as I was slightly bemused that the DVLA could not tell me despite having all of the relevant information if I could legally use my vehicle and if they couldn't who could? They again said they would call back, I declined this kind offer and said I would hold. I was informed that I may be on hold for a long time while he got through to the correct department, no problem I'll hold. Amazingly after holding for 35 minutes of listening to awful music while on hold I got told that a new V5 would be sent out within two days with the correct information an that my vehicle was legal.
To my surprise three days later I received the new correct V5 and in a separate envelope my road tax refund.
I would hate to be answering the phones at the DVLA as they must get a lot of stick (not from me I was polite but refused to go away)and have to stay polite! Maybe if the organisation wasn't so incompetent they would get an easier time.

As far as I am concerned, your documents are wrong, but the enforcement agency will go by your uprated weight (revenue weight)
Personally, I would return your documents with a covering letter. Keep copies!

Thanks *****, I would, but as I have said I am in Spain until 23rd December and the DVLA will probably be closed, so if I was to send it back then, it would end up delaying me setting off to Europe till February, why it takes 5 weeks for them to alter a V5 is beyond me, but I agree with you it doesn't look right. Just hope if I get stopped abroad that they go off the revenue weight, it would be less confusing to all if they altered the GVW to match.

Try reading this thread/

Thanks I have just read that, it does seem to suggest they go of the Revenue rate, fingers crossed it doesn't cause any confusion with the police in France and Spain. I have fitted the new Vin Plate under the bonnet that has the new weight on it.

Going from my experience of an up plating. DVLA lost everything and I even delivered to their office.
I would allow much longer than the 6 week they ask for, then you are safer.
I would hang on, until you have the required time. Your revenue weight is correct and you have a new VIN Plate.
Maybe you could drop them a line explaining their error and also explaining that you cannot return the V5 at this time as you need it as you are in mainland Europe. This covers you !

Cheers *****, thanks for that, yes I will send them a copy of the V5 as well as a letter when I get back at Xmas and keep the original V5 to take on my trip to Europe.

The 'Max Permissible Mass' part of my document is blank, I know there are a lot of others that are blank
