Van Conversion Insurance

Van conversion is almost completed, V5 back from DVLA showing the body type change to Van/Side Windows, much to my husband's annoyance instead of Motorcaravan he was expecting, but that's another story!
Now to insurance which is proving to be a stumbling block. The plan was that the van could be used, at different times, by ourselves and our family with their children meaning a total of 6 drivers on the policy. They have all held UK licences which are clean for 10+ years. The insurers I have tried so far will only insure a maximum of 4 drivers, suggesting that if one of the others wanted to use it, we remove somebody, then add another driver, incurring a charge varying from £25/£35 per change.
Apart from the cost, there is also the inconvenience factor for spontaneous night/weekends away of changing the insurance and running the risk of forgetting to change.
Has anyone encountered this hurdle or have suggestions of insurers that may cover multiple drivers please

Many thanks

I think you just need to shop around, we have two former coaches and both are insured and well covered despite one is undergoing conversion. We explained this to the insurer and just have to notify them if we want to renew the MOT as it would have to be driven on the road.

Oooh, the joys of insurance.

Simple fact is, more than 2 drivers and you become an enormous risk. Regardless of how well you all behave behind a steering wheel.
Have you tried taking directly to one of the major insurance companies?

If all the drivers are OK as they are it is nonsense..

Only 1 driver can use at any one time and it is not the same as "lending it out" to a friend.
I do not worry if they base the premium on the highest risk driver. But any additional risk SHOULD be covered by mileage..

But no they do not work like that !...Happy hunting !

When I was in the trade Aviva were a good company to talk to and sometimes had an approachable attitude to numerous named drivers.
They also underwrite a number of MH schemes so may be an idea to find access to one of these somehow and talk to them.
A MH broker company would be good for this.

Keep shopping around - when I included a couple of friends on my policy it didn't change the cost.
I seem to recollect that they were happy for up to 5 names and as long as all over 25 same cost.
