So we want filter for our water system on the van.
Any tips advice on what to use...thanks
 
I use one of these and it works great as mine is a self build it was easy to replace the pipe that feed the cold tap in the kitchen and replace it with the filter.1000000404.png
 
At home, our city water supply is very good so we use tap water for everything. Even our fridge is connected directly to the plumbing for ice and cold water. This is not the same everywhere. 100km north or south, tap water doesn't taste the same so, since driving around you never know the quality of water you find to fill the tanks, we only filter possible fine sand that might ruin the pumps and faucets ceramic seals and use bottled water for cooking and drinking. We buy 5 liter jugs and I strap one on a convenient place with a little battery powered pump on top ready to use.
 
The Warter taste in the new van is not good, we cleaned tank out boiler everything ,flushed 3 times , Brough bottle Warter which is fine .we have come to the conclusion it's the Water in Norfolk that's not good..
So thinking filter may help on our travels.
 
We had a whale system in the last van, not bothered in this one, we carry water for drinking (some would say too much), everything else is boiled from the tank, inc tea and coffee. I have a dodgy tum but no ill effects yet.
 
Personally folks, if I were a fitting water filter, I would fit UV filter after the carbon filter (see example below). Why you ask? If the carbon filters are not well maintained, bacteria is trapped within the filter, perhaps for a fair amount of time if installed in camper that will sit for a while, even with water drained, bacteria grows, then the next time water passes through the filter, bacteria passes through the faucet. With UV filter installed, any bacteria passing through and over the UV light, bacteria DNA is basically zapped and broken down before water exits faucet. I used to make these filters on a grander scale, all were 316L SS. A fascinating, interesting subject area.

Another point worth mentioning, whether house or camper installation, there are plastic housing and stainless steel housing. The latter SS IMO, although more expensive, are the better option, through time the plastic degrades internally due to UV exposure.
