Always buy a house at the top of a hill
 
We had a cl close to the Lincs coast ( and a small river) worry every time high tides and wind...now live a few miles inland on high( er) ground ..always thought of it floods .. probably be unsellable, difficult to insure could become a prison instead of a home and our most valuable asset...so we now have a 15 min drive to the coast instead of a walk but also have peace of mind.
Rivers and the sea lovely unless they're in your lounge

Yep; over the radiators in 07 and no kitchen for a year but work done on river since then
 
I remember 2007, floods and gales. I was working in Derbyshire and my trips between there and home were certainly 'adventures'. :rolleyes:
