Overnight much needed rain but bright and breezy again today. ️️

Now just outside Matera on an olive farm. Its getting warmer touched 32° this afternoon, I stayed close to the freezers in Lidl! Easterly breeze keeping it bearable, exploring Matera tomorrow may be warm.

The daily flip flop of weather continues. Today we've sunshine and showers with a moderate south-westerly and 15 degrees.

Today the owner took us into Matera where the temperature touched 41.5° .......



We got back to van to find the Italian gremlins had struck again. I can only assume the heat caused the bathroom mixer tap to basically explode and split the casing leaving the water running and draining the fresh tank. The only plus point being the spigot didn't split so the water ran into the basin and not on the floor. Anyway we've headed north to Benevento for tonight and hopefully a cooler tomorrow.

What did you think of the Sassi Area?

You did better than me bagging a lift. Yvonne wasn't feeling great that day, and so I parked her and little mugwump in Via Lucana near Castillo Tramontano, and walked in alone. I found it strange, almost turning upmarket. A welcome change from it's sad past.

I must have liked it because I fired off loads of photos.

The water issue is a pain as it is a pressure tap so I can't just disconnect the electrics, we'll manage with containers until we get home.

Our friendly farmer dropped us close to where you parked. We did cheat and used the tour minibus to get around the Sassi as Val's hip isn't up to a lot of climbing. As our guide confirmed, the Sassi area is now a tourist hotspot barely frequented by the locals unless they work there. That said, the areas that have been renovated have been carefully done, but I agree seeing all the taxis unloading/loading luggage and guests to upmarket hotels created from the renovations was a bit surreal. However, I think what they have achieved in conservation terms keeps the visual "wow" factor, and I have some pics to edit as well .

On a agricamper site last night. Lovely hosts running a vineyard, welcomed us with coffee and homemade cookies. Just outside Benevento and hoping to get north of Rome today. Looks to be another scorcher with a high in the low 30's, not ideal for driving but we need to get some miles covered and it should be a little cooler as we head north, a friend confirmed it was in the mid 20's in Lucca yesterday. Very slight westerly breeze and humidity is 57%.
