Weird Fiat attachment

Has anyone seen one of these in the flesh, I just caught sight of it in a Video.

Never seen one, but the van must be on a heavy chassis to cope with that extra overhang, plus the weight of the box and its contents. A special box for wheelchair etc perhaps?

I think it may be a serving hatch of some sort.

I've seen them on the back of continental coaches, just wondering whether its used for storing ski equipment given the location?

there is a french company that makes these boxes like mine though they have a pressed steel frame very handy
