WHAT FLOOR COVERING DO YOU HAVE IN THE VAN

We have the original carpets down in the Hymer. They are now 18 years old and getting pretty worn out. The edgings (whipping) where they show (around the front seat boxes and on the sides by the dash) are tearing off and looking shabby. The rest is not too bad but showing signs of wear over any irregularities on the floor such as finger pulls for underfloor hatches. I would rather just have vynal as so easy to clean but I am over ruled. 2 or 3 times a year weather and water access permitting I scrub the carpets and they come out very well but with 2 small dogs they soon look grubby. I usually shake the carpets out of the door to get dust and grit out and rub them over with damp cloth to remove hair

I have vinyl on the floor but was going to carpet her but the boss thinks I’m nuts as we hope to move on from her this term .just felt I should’ve done it long ago but curious what others have and think
Cheers for any replies

We have carpets that are fixed in place with fasteners but, we removed them and put some mats in place, to much dirty feet for carpet's

I have the original carpets for my van rolled up in the garage at home because I couldn't live with the colour... second-hand van, so no choice. Then I took a couple of large offcuts from when the house was done and made/cut a fitted carpet for the van. Mostly I just have the vinyl floor and a long rag-rug runner because it's so much easier to sweep and wash and the rug goes in the washing machine after most trips. In the winter though, I put the fitted carpet back in for a bit of extra cosiness. I also have a couple of rubber backed mats by the hab door for muddy feet.

I think it's Altro as the chosen poison for most camper companies these days, as it's very hard wearing and the choice of finish is pretty impressive.

my van floor gets a fair bit of stick so now i use laminate held down by beading screwed all round. if it gets damaged i can replace it completely for a tenner , or fix the damaged plank . takes about an hour to renew the lot

Never noticed any damp yet but I have carpet on top. They definitely reduce road noise. A massive reduction in road noise in this and my previous van.

Van came with vinyl floor and removably carpets which live in the garage. Have had cheap runners, but now use Ikea mats with a door mat in the entrance. I like the comfort you get from carpets but they are impossible to keep clean unless the only camping you do is on hard standing pitches.:giggle:

Van came with vinyl floor and press stud removable carpets which was taken out and put in the attic room, we have had a gym type carpet fitted (which is dark in colour), which holds all the mud on the top to easily vacuum off, we have small mats near the entrance to catch most of the debris that comes in

My MH came with carpets - in beige ? - and with a dog (was dogs ?) they were immediately taken out and stored away in the attic.

When we recarpetted the house we had lots of big offcuts - I’ve now got a nice Axminster in the MH and very comfy it is too - this is a shoe free zone and dog has her feet wiped when she comes in all mucky.

Cj carpet binding in Glasgow will do a carpet for you sorry can't put a link up, know a girl that just got her motorhome done and the price was 150 pounds, she didn't have any templates carpet, thay made templates and was ready in four days, price seems very reasonable,

Wood laminate, fitted badly by the previous owner, various mats and runner and a door mat, various small hoovers and a long handled dustpan and brush. No dogs but pet birds

Do you find they sweat or get damp coming in with wet shoes?
I found when I had them in my old van Snoopy you had to lift them quite a bit as grit got down the seams and if you spilled anything it immediately migrated underneath them.

Who or what was stored in the attic, the carpets or dogs? ......sorry I couldn't resist,:giggle:

This sounds excellent but a little far to go as I’m in Hertfordshire but Orr remember next time I’m up that way

If you are trading up this year then perhaps a couple of carpet runners - long thin rugs, might be a low cost option. We used to use 2 of them in our last van over the vinyl flooring just to make the floor warmer to stand on and they are easy to shake out when dirty. Not sure of the layout of the inside of your van though, our was a long walkway and thats why it worked.

Your van looks similar to ours.

We use an offcut for the central walkway, and a disable mat at the habitation door.

From Spring onwards, we revert to the original base vinyl. The original carpets are safe and clean, tucked away safe at home.
