What is the best way to get rid of grey waste?

Easy when in most of Europe as the aires have drains for them, other than that I have a container to carry some to use when emptying the toilet. I have even used the toilet to empty the waste into (after emptying the toilet). If we are wildcamping on grassed area will occasionally empty some of waste if we needed to but most times getting rid of some when we have to empty the toilet it's never been a big problem, only occasionally have had more than half a tank full. Not a big problem emptying at home if we need to. Try to fully empty the waste & flush some fresh water through to keep it from smelling.

Some of our grey water gets used to rinse the cassette if emptied on an Aire where the borne needs token or Euros to get rinse water and all we need is cassette emptyying.

We also carry key handles for lifting manholes - not that I could find them last time. We make sure it is sewage and not rain-water drain.

As a manhole virgin how do I tell the difference , before lifting, between sewer and rainwater manholes?

At the MH service point. Its quite easy really. I open the valve let it empty then close the valve. :Smiling_Face_with_T

I use a washing up bowl, there's always hedges or grass about that needs watering.

Discreetly into a hedgerow or on a sloped rough surface (not tarmac) parking area with the run off into the side.

OK it looks nasty but you and I know its just probably at worst washing up water or from our van probably just shower water. I guess its the perceptions of others though we need to worry about. Personally I wouldnt have an issue with that as that kind of gravel car park is likely to absorb that pretty quickly. I would have pulled a bit further onto the grass to be honest or probably not emptied there at all.

Whoever said 'at a waste disposal point' must be lucky enough to have one available. I rarely stop on camp sites. If we still have grey waste when we get home, which is usually the case, it goes down the drain grid on the path, which goes into the sewer with stuff far worse than my dish water.
When travelling 'off grid' I am extremely careful about what goes into the grey tank so all plates are wiped before washing, no lumps or greasy stuff down the sink, no chemicals other than a bit of soap and eco tank freshener etc., thus ensuring that the contents are really not too bad so I have no problem about discretely releasing into a grid where it is evident some pretty dirty stuff goes. Cleanish washing up bowls can be emptied discretely in patches of weedy vegetation, a practice actively encouraged in some countries on camp sites where there are dry conditions.

If your parked on grass pot a bucket that you have pre drilled o few holes in the bottom place under your outlet put a j cloth or similar in the bottom of the bucket and open your wast to a small trickle it will then soak away slowly and all food debris will be caught in the cloth you can dispose of that in a bin and nobody is any wiser about your grey waste.
Never thought of this, and it waters the much parched grass at the moment ;-) Having said that I live in France so we use Aires most of the time, failing that park over a drain in a carpark

Officially I think rain water drains are, only rain down the drain!!
Anything else should go down a sewer presumably to be treated.
I tend to agree however discrete disposal is appropriate down drains or in hedgerows etc. After all very little sinister contents in ours. We are very careful what gets washed down our sink etc. Amazed at how quickly it pongs, never the less.

What a brilliant idea will have to try that

Well cows and sheep pee and poo in fields so I m sure the contents of my grey tank will be less harmful than that and as and rain falls on them they do get wet :)

I'm really pleased this thread has been raised.

I generally ask permission to water hedges with grey when the CL/CS owner can be found, and feel guilty as sin doing it when they're not around. As a last resort when in the middle of nowhere, I dribble grey onto a verge beneath the drain tap whilst eating lunch.

I feel so much better having read the honest posts here. Thank you all!

Just before a motorway drive, open the valve to a dribble and by the time you arrive at the other end tank is empty.

I've never actually done this but, I would probably use a jet wash facility on a garage forecourt and just let it go while I'm washing off.
