What's going on with Sainsburys?

I found last week that all the Lloyds pharmacies are being closed, and just now they are closing the instore Argos depots.

If they carry on there will be even less reasons to go there.

I do know that it's Lloyds decision to close the Sainsburys pharmacies, but I think there might be more behind that than what they are saying to the media.

We never use Sainsbury except when travelling and only then if no Asda or Lidl around ridiculous prices in Sainsbury we think but others will disagree of course Tesco too is a no no for us?

I think like fuel prices store prices are competitive in the area so not bad here as we have an Aldi and a Lidl just a couple of miles away, an Iceland, Morrisons, Farm foods, Asda, and we're getting a new Aldi is on it's way as the old one is too small and Lidl has planning on a site in town, no Tesco, we are well served here, we have five petrol stations too inc Morrisons Asda & Sainsburys.

Sainsburys is having to cut costs to stay competitive with Aldi & Lidl via its Price Match scheme {IIRC, Aldi has added some 1.45 million new customers in the last 3 months or so]. In addition, Sainsburys has to fund its 3rd employee payrise of the last 12 months, and one area that is ripe for cost cutting is the Central Systems, where there are 3 different systems across the Group. The merging into one Master System will improve Stock Control, whilst also reducing overall stock levels in the supermarkets/Argos [which reduces working capital requirements].

It's a tough world for retailers, especially the supermarkets which have had it easy for decades; Sainsburys et al have to reduce costs/frills etc to compete with Aldi and Lidl who never had these unnecessary costs in the first instance

Lloyds just rang me saying they cannot supply me with a drug that was short back on Jan 7th, maybe they have supply problems.

What's annoying is I have to contact my surgery, and hope they believe me as it's 22 tablets, 1 a day, why can't they ring/email the surgery.

Our surgery sends the prescription direct to Lloyds within 48 hours of ordering via the Patient Access App. Unfortunately, the local Llyds takes forever to get the prescription dispensed, so it's now quicker to collect from the Surgery and take the prescription in oneself, making the medication available 24 or 48 hours later. My medication is pretty much always out of stock on at least 1 line [Ivabradine is the lead suspect], and the manufacturer used changes every time; one of the consequences of Brexit, I'm afraid, Kev

I just order online at the earliest opportunity Steve and then go pick it up, no standing in the rain etc, and if not ready I have a wander round, maybe get a drink and go back later.

Our Sainsbury store closed the Starbucks and then opened their own instead. The Lloyd's pharmacy closed and Sainsbury opened their own which was terrible. Then they closed that so there isn't one anymore. I think a lot of it is down to how much space they have and what generates the most money. Ours no longer has a Fish, Meat or Deli Counter. Mind you we now shop at Lidl 😳😅

I never let the remaining stock go below 2 weeks, Kev. I bought holiday/spare supplies in Spain, over the counter, the mainstream brands readily available [dispensing drawer of Ivabradine visible, jam-packed with the orange & white packets ...]

After doctor contact by ph are scrips are in a nominated drug store in 3 days, ours is next door to dock and a free carpark ,so handy.

I used to use Lloyds at my local Sainsbugs, but got hacked off with the interminable queues.
I have a large prescription (6 different tabs a day)
I changed to Pharmacy2U on my smart phone.
So easy. If you do nothing, the package just arrives every 28 days - no hassle.
If you order 3 or 4 days before needed, you build up a buffer stock.
I now have 3 weeks supply on hand when my 4 weekly lot arrives.
Worth thinking about

I take 8 first thing, then one midday and 4 in the evening not counting any vitamins.

I order two months at a time and if there's a queue I come back, I always go there first in case but so long as there is a chair I don't mind waiting a little while.

How does the Pharmacy2U system work then?

Welcome to the old gits club, where the highlight of Friday is the Alpha male 'Who takes the most tablets' Competition. I used to take 7 different tablets, with 2 of the tablets repeated each evening, but my January mini stroke led to a more powerful mix of medication of 6 different tablets, only 1 of which is repeated in the evening. But I do have 3 different creams for skin problems, so that boosts the numbers, and provides a little variety :D Does that put me in the lead? :sneaky:

Creams I can possibly beat you on those, Bloody useless doc kept giving me different ones until he eventually sent me to a proper dermatologist who prescribed something which actually worked on my psoriasis, Mometasone Furoate, I have another for my ears, I have maybe another five.

I used to use a one size fits all cream but the buggers stopped making it Allergenics Emollient cream, it just worked, nice smell rubbed in well and no stickiness, no steroids or anything, Holland and Barretts bought the company that made it and just stopped even though they don't have an equivalent product.

they are not going to drop the price just because you want them to. But if you got the app you would benefit from some deals and free products.

Feel free to stand your ground and lose out. LIDL won't care.

I bet you never had a co-op dividend number either ;) ;)
