about 50 years ago in the royal engineers one of our sergeants used to find us casual work with a donation to mess funds of course, the work was marquee erection i have put them up for county shows and weddings all over the southern counties some were huge with 6 ridge poles others a single large tent with lacy net liners, the basic construction is a ridge pole with a ring on each end an upright is threaded through the rings reared upright and secured with guide ropes canvas sections laced together to make roof sides etc,
i recently posted reference a river fete that is taking place at pomarao 5th-7th a team of guys arrived yesterday to erect the marquee its a huge leap forward from the ones i used to do securing plates spiked to the floor using a kango not a sledge aluminium sections forming the basic triangle linked with cross frames they are putting joists down to take 1mtr sq boards there are 16 pallets of 50 boards so 800sq mts of floor space

as you can see more like an aircraft hangar actual floor space after they added couple of extra sections is 1008 sq mts canvas is threaded through a groove similar to an awning material like side curtains on a lorry
