WHERE DO YOU KEEP YOUR VAN IN WINTER?

In wet laybys, wet fields, wet car parks, wet campsites, wet….....

and sometimes in sunny, dry Spain.

Colin :):):)

We store it in Portugal or Spain but if we have to we keep it on the drive just outside the front door with an electric oil filled radiator in it,
so it's ready to go when we need it.

How much does it cost to store there?

Outside of the house always packed drained down no heating on cushions away from the sides!

On the drive, I do have a small ceramic heater, but found it made no difference when I failed to turn it on one year, we do use it all year round normally, not so much these last two years though.

I drain down at the first sign of frost, run all taps and leave them open, pump off, wipe all surfaces with an anti bac spray, leave a couple of windows in the vent position to increase air flow, lift all cushions, and move them every week or so, open all lockers and cupboards, remove all food, inc tins, roll carpets up, only takes a few minutes to get it ready for the off if we decide to go somewhere.

on drive......further north......because its only a small van with very basic facilities , it gets used as probably could be termed as a multipurpose vehicle......so its used pretty much all year round. and we love it,

We use ours all year round, but it’s just on the driveway or parked in the garden when not in use. I drained it down once when we’re away without the van last Christmas, but generally, if there’s a frost forecast, I put the water heater on for a couple of hours. Water tanks are onboard do no worries about them freezing.

We drive the motorhome down to the South of Spain for the winter. We hate UK winters.

Ours is kept in secure storage about 12 miles away. It's always "refreshed" after each trip ready for the next one. It has 2 solar panels on the roof which ensure all 3 batteries are topped up in between trips. All of the blinds are closed and surfaces wiped down with anti bacterial cleaner. Interestingly we've not used the method of pulling the cushions away from the walls due to there being a sort of breathing panel between the walls and the cushions. The overhead lockers all have air holes with plastic grills in them. Salop leisure do a full drain down and air blast the pipes to ensure no moisture remains. They then recommission in the spring and do the hab service at the same time. I have always felt this service is good value for money because there are some things that I am physically unable to do and it also ensures we comply with the terms of the warranty. We can't keep it on the drive due to covenants in our house deeds re caravans/trailers/MH etc being on the drive for more than 48 hours. Besides, there isn't enough room for the MH plus my classic Volvo and the Range Rover! ;)

We store half an hour's drive from home all year round. We close all the blinds and the cab curtains and leave rechargeable dehumidifiers in the habitation area if we're going to leave the van for more than a week or so. However, we use the van all year round as we're amateur astronomers and the van makes an excellent mobile observatory.

We dont have the room on the drive or at the front of the house for other vehicles, so ours has a secure parking bay at the local airfield. 24 hr security, CCTV and double locked compound for 320 a year. It is only ten minutes from the house. Unfortunately no EHU to run heaters etc but do have large solar units to keep batteries etc.
Once we have won the lottery we..........

We all live in hope:D
Well not really Gordon it is only a small village near Edal and Castleton but they do get a lot of visitors. Or do you mean you sleep at the cement works there in your truck :)
