Who's fallen out their Motorhome?

OK, let's be honest ... maybe the question is who HASN'T fallen, or nearly fallen out their Motorhome exiting the hab door? (and I think this is much more prevalent to Motorhomes than to campers with the big sliding doors?).

I think a few people on the forum have actually broken ankles and things this way? I have not gone the whole way but have certainly had a few "woah!" moments stepping out and Linda (the OH) fell over and twisted her ankle coming out one day.
I hate the feeling as each time I think I DID fall out and if at home, I would most likely smash my head on the side of my trailer and that would be it! (no flowers please, just donations).

What made me think of this is a video that came up in my Youtube list this morning from a channel I subscribe to ("AZ Expert". Very interesting and watchable I find) which talked about a very simple upgrade fitting a grab handle. Seems like a great idea (although need to work out the support side for a typical european plastic box motorhome?)

You had at least 4 attempts in Brunhilde last Thursday when fitting the Fridge Fans etc! We were going to award you the AOT with Bar [A*se over Tit] and 4 x 5.8 with 2 x 6.0 Judges' Marks ... :ROFLMAO:. So that put th pressure on me to do something more showy at Kelso with the fresh cafétiere of coffee [don't think too many people noticed, though ... ]

I forgot about doing it with your van! bad enough with my own :(

In the past I recall falling out of the van on quite a few occasions usually under the influence last time was at a Hereford meet I blame Lairdy for that one. 🤣😂🤣😂

I have the kampa style free standing double step and a grab handle so now feel secure once made to exit the van using the fitted step but it had retracted ooher, looking on amazon the other day & there were a set of full width double steps but £90

First van had overhead bunk bed . Fell out of that (in L'Aguiole) , hitting gas bottle cupboard on way down .
Lay for 10 minutes , frightened to move in case I'd broken something. Fortunately all good . Never used that bed again

I have stepped out the van without first checking the step was out but managed to stay upright, just jarred. I have a swing out handle same type of thing as in the video but usually only use that if I go on a site so not often. Did put it out on the drove for a few nights last month as disabled daughter came to visit and struggles to get in and out without it.

While I have been sorting my electric step problem I have toyed with fitting reed switch/hall sensors to the door but decided it’s just another thing that can go wrong. Of course it wouldn’t go wrong til you were convinced it worked ok. 😂😂😂

I notice a common theme starting to emerge here. As a non drinker I will not point it out though 😂😂😂
Most of the fallers are non-drinkers, Neil; mainly, because each fall results in the drink being thrown well clear of the glass ... :ROFLMAO:. Or, as Billy Connolly recounts the episode of Chick Murray falling over in the street in a state of inebriation. When a lady asks if he is drunk, Mr Murray replied, 'Naw, hen, I've got a bar of chocolate in ma back pocket, and I'm trying to find a new way of breaking it ...'

How do you get in and out then? through the cab doors?

I know people see that handle you linked to mainly as security, but be good as a grab handle as well I would have thought?
Yes always have, liz is unsteady on her feet, and I am so used to hopping in and out of a cab I prefer it, and yes it makes a good handle grab rail.

I find it’s a bigger step getting out the cab than the hab door. If it weren’t for the dogs I would rarely bother with a step though.

It is but she can grab the seat and I have the steering wheel and muscle memory.

my OH finds it quite a big step up for the cab door.
I often use the hab door instead of the cab door in fact - maybe I am pretending I have a posh A class? :)

I think I will get one of those handles. I have seen there is a longer option as well to the one you linked to? the Security 45, which is 45cm long, as opposed to the Security 31, which is ... nah ... it is 35cm long (why 31 then? ). I can see value in both the grab rail side and an extra security feature (which is very visual as well).
