WIn 11 not popular

From win 7 all went down hill, 11 does not allow you to install programes windows does not autherise, also you never own it by this nature.
Its slow, does not allow cleaning of system, then there is the peeping tom soft were imbeded within, no thanks, i will stick with linux lite.
Still dont understand why folks have not twiged on yet and rebooted over, zorin lite mint are v good distros, yours to do as you like.
Come on pudsey try on a old 64 bit laptop you have, cant do you any harm, in fact may be something to train the brain, well whats left of it. 😂google chrome.jpggoogle on trial.jpggoogle spyware.pngwindows v linux.png

So although you don't have Windows installed Trev you know all about it, so I assume you've been interwebbing.

W11 has hardware requirements that prevent it being easily installed on older PCs
It has a staggering amount of bloatware and quite a bit of nagware some features like pathetic Xbox gaming apps that no intelligent adult ever needs. and other equally useless integrations can’t even be uninstalled by normal methods.

you can’t even remove edge anymore and it regularly tries to interfere with my preferred browser.

I genuinely have no idea what probably 90% of the is is actually for I bet for the majority of users it’s just used as a launch pad for a browser email client and open source software like libre office!

I hate the endless updates they take forever to install and severely impact performance whilst installing if allowed to run automatically so I have to reserve a few hours each month to manually kick them off.

I dual boot, Linux Mint is my preferred OS for day to day but Wine has it’s limits for running some Windows apps

The only time I boot Windows up is to run the various Automotive tools I have VCDS, BMW ISTA, Mercedes VW and Iveco repair and parts catalogues etc these tools have huge disk space requirements and are often difficult to install so an emulator like Wine makes it impractically hard.

Mint is a good desktop, i run lite which is as stated, does require a we bit of setting up after instalation, i clear the screen of all apps as not required because they are all within the menu, i also remove the web browser and install brave & falcon, linux is faster and as above post is not locked in with junk bloatwear, updates take a few minutes & its easy to remove cookies and junk in seconds which keeps the pc clean.

In a past life @trevskoda i used to work for Kalamazoo, on Motordata sites Sco Unix was the default OS with attached dumb terminals running over serial comms all under full administrator control so stable and it did exactly what was needed user had no way to screw anything up etc!

I never forget when Windows first arrived on 30+ floppy disks, it was very quaint!

Its ability to reduce itself to rubble due to bloatware, unauthorised third party apps and regular arrogant, I can and will do what I like with my business pc, type user interference kept me and hundreds of thousands of other well paid IT staff in gainful employment ever since 😉

Do you know that if you buy a new pc and dont want windows on it they must remove it and refund you the price of it, it used to be £50.
Then you can install any flavour of linux distro you want.
90% of home owners only want a on line browser and emails etc, you can add or remove any programes you want or dont.
Im running a old £25 fuijitsu dual 64 bit with 8 gig ram and a 500gb haed drive, and so are my kids in there b rooms.
