So I am taking things to the van this morning ready for my trip on Friday I walked round the side and as I did the guy mowing the lawn next door said you’ve got a smashed window yep sure enough so my first thoughts were a break in but then I wondered why the guy hadn’t knocked on my door when he noticed it as he clearly hadn’t just noticed it the second I walked round that side of the van so my head is thinking how powerful would a stone being launched out of that lawn mower would be and would it be enough to do that, oh well no proof but another load of hassle getting it sorted ????????

Bugger! :(

Yes, a stone launched out from underneath a lawnmower, specially if petrol driven, would definitely be able to smash a vehicle window.
I think you might well be right about said neighbour...

Hope it doesn't cost too much to get it fixed, Annie - good luck!

Easily.

I had a chap getting rid of some tree stumps a few years ago and he managed to get the grinding machine to kick out a stone to smash the large glass pane in one of my French Windows in the back garden.
As he was apologising about that, he asked me to go round the front of the house to show me where he had managed to do the same thing, but this time on the rear screen of my RAV4

Funnily enough I didn't pay the boss of the company he worked for for the stumping grinding bill when it was presented ....

Shouldn't be a problem as it is factory fit window .straight forward glass claim .should just cost the excesses.

Yes straight forward fitting it in the morning still £100 out of pocket ?
Annie, check your policy. I have a vague recollection that often glass replacement is not subject to excess if it is not the Windscreen. (sounds weird I know)

Yes I spoke to them about that but the wording on their policy means all glass windows but I’m not worried because I rung auto glass to see what it would cost me without a insurance claim £246 + vat makes it almost £300 scandalous for a piece of glass.?

£300! That's extortion!

Any stone inside the cab ? Or on floor below window ?

Do you have cctv that you could look at to see what happened

Unfortunately I have pebbles down the side of my drive so it would be lost in among but I’m not bothered it’s my neighbors grandson and I don’t want to upset the best neighbour I have ever had so I’ll just put it down to one of life’s little hiccups.

I managed to break the same window in our conservatory, twice, ( but 2 years apart) while mowing the lawn.
First time, I was about 20 metres away, 2nd time, I was 40 metres away.
Those stones really fly when flicked up with a rotary mower.

Pleased it was an easy sort out Annie, but shame that's £100 down the drain that you could have spent on something else.

I was using an electric strimmer and that flicked up a stone and smashed a conservatory window for me !

It’s always worth asking an independent glass company, usually less than half the Big companies prices. I had a windscreen replaced once for about £100 when a Autoglass would have been over £300!

I went to Autoglass the other day as I have a less than pin head chip in my screen and not through the glass.
They wanted £150 and told me that most of their work is insurance and that is why prices are high
If a screen can be repaired some insurance companies don't charge the excess .

+1 on getting an independent to quote for glass repairs - they are often much cheaper.
The big brands sell to the insurance companies way under the sticker price. Most will only pay £175-200 if you dont use their supplier - add in your excess of £75/100 and you get a full windscreen for £250/300.

My cab aircon needs a new condenser due to stone damage. After reading your thread it’s now protected from flying stones when parked in the garden. By coincidence I was granted a blue badge yesterday, won’t be storing it in the van!
