If a screen can be repaired some insurance companies don't charge the excess .
Yes, I know that, but they can increase the next premium.
I just don't claim unless I have to.
What I was getting at is that all they seem to want is insurance work, same as car accident repairers.
Big money for inflated invoices, but we all pay more in our premiums for this.
Ambulance chasers comes to mind!

+1 on getting an independent to quote for glass repairs - they are often much cheaper.
The big brands sell to the insurance companies way under the sticker price. Most will only pay £175-200 if you dont use their supplier - add in your excess of £75/100 and you get a full windscreen for £250/300.

My cab aircon needs a new condenser due to stone damage. After reading your thread it’s now protected from flying stones when parked in the garden. By coincidence I was granted a blue badge yesterday, won’t be storing it in the van!

I was using an electric strimmer and that flicked up a stone and smashed a conservatory window for me !
I know someone who almost lost an eye when using a strimmer without goggles and it flicked a stone up. We should all be thankful when it's just stuff that can be replaced. (typing this from the drop in centre after a Dremel attachment sheared off and buried itself in my cheek...fun and games!)
