Can someone please advise me how to eradicate a family of ants which have taken residence in my van?
Thankyou in anticipation,
Chas.

Could try taking them on holiday they might leave if its a nicer place to stay
Failing that try ant killer powder plenty to choose from .
Good luck

She who must be obeyed insists that cheap talcum powder is the best thing ants won’t cross a thick line of it we always have some under the doors at home. We did try a proprietary brand of ant killer then sat and watched as the little sods dragged dirt over it when covered they then used it as a bridge.

If you don't fancy ant powder....

6 Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Ants

  1. Mint. Plant mint around perimeter of your home to repel insects. ...
  2. Vinegar. Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. ...
  3. Lemon Juice. Just like vinegar, lemon juice also seems to destroy the scent trails that ants follow. ...
  4. Cinnamon. ...
  5. Cayenne Pepper or Black Pepper. ...
  6. Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth.
Think number 1 would be difficult!

Thanks, but the problem is they’ve just joined me on holiday here in France! Maybe they are ‘Migrant Ants’ and somebody’s told them I’m from Scotland and they think the ‘Auld Alliance’ is still valid!
No chance. Will have to learn the French for ‘Ant Powder’. Uncle Google might know.

I had the same problem in France and Spain last summer and I bought ant killer in supermarkets. The best was like a little round pot that you just leave on the floor.

Yesterday we spotted a trail travelling up the awning legs ... been on a killing spree since. A squirt of mossie spray seems to work where you see them. Not near shops till Wednesday, so using what we have. Will try white vinegar spray tomorrow.

Stop killing poor creatures you orrible lot, they're just being ants. ?

A few years ago in Italy we got a van full of ants and spotted more recruits arriving so put ant powder round their entrance. We were still left with the problem of getting rid of those inside, took months. The Dutch couple pitched next to us had more sense they bought a jar of jam stuck it under the van smeared a bit around the ant entrance and out they marched, lesson learned.

Thanks for the tip, must try that but will have to do it on the van floor because I have no idea where they got in. Anyway they’re here, I’ve tried a couple of ant pots and there are still stragglers showing up. I’ll try a jammy lid on the floor now so will see what happens. Might become a spectator sport! ?

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful suggestions. I don’t feel so bad about them now that I know others have had the same problem. And I’ve got plenty of remedies to try now. Chas.

I once heard that Thyme can be used to repel ants. We have some in our van, but haven't used it yet, so don't know how well it works.

The last time we had ants it took a week or so, before we got rid of the last one. WE would attack them and wipe them up with baby wipes every time we saw them.
By the way if you turn up at a campsite and see white circles or ovals on the ground, there's ants about, the circles are ant powder put down by previous occupants of the site around poles or tyres to stop the ants gaining access to the vehicle or caravan
cheers alan
PS we now carry a plastic bottle of ant powder

We scooped up some ant powder as a Motorhome moved off and put it round our awning legs.
For ants in the van, I found this

I use these around the house and also keep a pack in the MoHo too. The idea being that the ants take them to the nest, feed on them and then get poisoned. They do work too
