Is it worth renewing CAMC membership?

As WC...

Renewal due and they are asking full price for membership of a club which has no open sites and obviously cannot tell you when they will be open. A bit of a cheek I think.
Problem is I have insurance through them as well as greencard recovery, neither of which I will be using and no doubt both of which will again be full price to renew.
Now I dont mind supporting good causes by paying my way during difficult times but CAMC???
What do you all think?
K 🤔

Cc&c are guaranteeing 12 months membership. That is, your membership is suspended atm and will only be restored once they are allowed to reopen their sites.
Not sure if this helps. I joined because they were a couple of quid cheaper than the other lot.
My renewal was in February. Otherwise I think I’d keep my money until I knew it’d be worthwhile. Ferry discount was handy.

It all depends on whether you want them to be still available when this is all over, there will be a lot of businesses go under because of lack of cashflow.
I for one will still keep up my membership to enable them to keep operating and I have just bought vouchers from them (they have an offer on at the moment, £120 of vouchers for £100 cash) then again if you are a FLT you probably do not subscribe to them anyway but for those of us that like a bit of luxury:p

As mentioned above, the C&CC are extending membership for as long as sites are closed.
I'm about to renew membership and in the renewal notice it states:

'This year, we're extending your membership period for as long as our sites are closed, to ensure you get your full 12 months of membership no matter what happens.'

My new membership card notes that the next renewal is due in 12 months time since nobody yet knows by how much membership will be extended. When the actual time for renewal comes round next year no doubt the adjustment will be taken into account.
My view is that this arrangement is fair almost to the point of being generous to members. Clubs and other organisations will wither and die if they are not supported through these difficult times.
And that includes MH and WC.

Colin 🙂🙂🙂

The attitude of the C&CC is such that you want to support them.
Other organisations that don't even acknowlege they are not delivering the service that you joined for (and are saving money as a result) may end up getting the support that attitude deserves (IMO)

We have cancelled our membership nothing against the c&mc, just not used any of their facilities for over a year.

Membership extension seems a much fairer deal. I never use CAMC sites but do use their CL's.
I doubt if CAMC will go under as a result of COVID-19 but who knows.
And I might be saving on fuel bills but that pales into insignificance when you compare with whats happened to my pension fund, so CAMC are not the only ones here feeling the pinch.
I'll probably renew in the hope of some adjustment later but will not be holding my breath😐

I honestly think the use of campsites will increase massively once people are let out the house. They will want a change of scenery, but not get to close to strangers - so camping is the obvious solution! CAMC and C&CC will be doing very well come July I reckon.

And the CAMC 6metre rule often criticized will come into its own.

Well, I read this thread earlier on today and then as if by magic to prompt me into action, in today's post popped through our letter box as the DD renewal notice and the new membership cards for next year from the C&MC!

So I made a quick phone call to them and asked a very helpful woman in the membership section about what as happening and the outcome of it all for me is that I have now cancelled the DD payment that would have been taken out on the 5th May.
The woman I was speaking to was not at all surprised as she had received a considerable number of similar decisions.

About the C&MC, we are only members because we have to be simply so we can use the CL network. Personally speaking I can't stand their monthly magazine, it has to be amongst the most amateurishly written and poorly edited publications I have ever read, and as for the large club sites, we never ever use them and neither do we ever use any of the travel facilities, booking facilities or insurance services, so as far as I am concerned mmmmm!!

I only wished there was a club or facility that listed very small sites like the CL network, perhaps there is, if there is can someone please flag it up for me.

Many thanks for the link, but having just taken a butchers at the site I am sorry to say that is not for us as the number of their CL sites is next to nothing compared to the enormous number you get with the C&MC.

And as for their large number of social gatherings every year, I am afraid to say that we are a very private couple and the best sites for us are those where we are as alone as possible.

Yep thats the problem for us too. Its a pity all of the CAMC and C&CC CL's didnt just join one club of just CL's to give us massive choice...

We joined both of the big clubs a couple of years ago because we needed somewhere to stay when we visited our daughter when she lived in Cambridge. She lived right in the centre with no parking nearby, so had to use campsites and cycle into the centre.
Now she has moved and bought a house with a decent sized driveway, so we will park there now when we visit.
I doubt we will renew our C&MC membership, but may keep our CCC membership if we decide to tour the UK in the future.
We prefer their sites anyway.

We aim for the really basic CL's and typically pay £6-8 per night. We have a record low of £2 per night at a site near Boscastle who normally charged £4 a couple of years ago, but apologised for the 18" high grass and would not take more than £2, and he gave me a bottle of his home made scrumpy for nowt too. Lovely people but I am yet to hear a CL owner singing the praises of the CAMC.

Count me in with that description!

I honestly do believe that the management of the CAMC are all up their own asses, they are a profit making business and to hell with the loyal members who only want to stop on CL sites as they don't bring in revenue!

As for your comment@snapster, we used to be members of the CACC and often found their CS sites to be overcrowded because of the caravan/motorhome/tent numbers whereas on CL sites most owners stick to the 5 vans maximum rules so we can have the much needed space.

Can't say I've ever had an issue with either CL/Cs locations BUT we don't tend to head to honeypots OR peak seasons....
To be honest I've only ever been asked once for membership details....
The rest of the time the owners have usually just been delighted with my £6-£10 etc whatever.

It's always nice to have the safety net of having the membership cards etc IF a wild camp etc doesn't pan out.
