Is it worth renewing CAMC membership?

We’ve toured round the UK and stopped at the occasional Pub Stop but the nicest sites, we found, were small independent sites. We have phoned ahead to local councils at places we were planning on visiting and been pleasantly surprised when they have allowed us to park overnight in some of their car parks, most though, just point us in the direction of a large campsite........
 
I won't be renewing my membership of C&MC when it is due.
If they are still about next year may rejoin then.
 
I've been a member of the CAMC since 1975, when it really felt like a club . . . you had to be nominated by a member to join! Now it just feels like a business. We've used their sites maybe 10 times over this period when nothing else was close enough to where we wanted to be, but the CL network is great (not that CL owners don't moan to us about the club). I can get a better insurance deal for the motorhome elsewhere, and free recovery through Nationwide so my subscription is subsidizing site development for those who prefer them.

As for the Magazine, after noting all the closed CLs, it goes in the recycling. I tried writing letters to the magazine, but nothing negative is ever printed. And don't start me about the App.

I joined the CCC 5 years ago when I realized how much I could save using their home insurance, and use their CSs and temporary holiday sites as a bonus.

Shall I renew my membership next year? Thinking about it!

You've only got 5 years to ho before you get free membership.

Now that seems very strange as you actually need to have an address to become a member and I believe they quote that any site should be used for leisure use only ie no full timers using a site as somewhere to live or workmen using a site instead of digs etc
 
Someone mentioned about losing their Mayday cover if they leave the CAMC. Provided you continue renewing Mayday, they don't insist you are a CAMC member. However if you let the cover lapse, then you cannot rejoin unless you can give them a current CAMC membership number.
 
There's no automatic free membership after 50 years in the CAMC as far as I can discover, though I believe this perk does exist for CCC members :-(
 
I know that over 65s with 25 years C&CC membership are eligible for (I think) half price. It is called veteran membership. Well hidden on the website. Not seen or heard of free membership for 50 years though. Doubt if many would qualify.

There's a lay-by not far from the town centre where lots of coaches park. We've stayed there several times, when it wasn't suitable to stay in the college car park.

There were pictures in a recent magazine of two groups of members at CCC HO getting their 50 year presentations. Only 10 years to wait for me.

I suspect and indeed hope that both C&CC and CAMC will advise all their sites to be vigilant on spacing.
We use C&CC a fair amount (certified sites up to 5) and mainly loads of room.
Costs £10 to £15 a night inc EHU
There is a bigger campsite "Hurley RP" which is fully serviced but not sure they will open showers toilets and washing up.
A lot of space and not expensive

Well after some misgivings I have renewed my membership of CAMC.
Dont press me as I really dont know why.
Time and Lockdown lifting will tell if it was a good decision.
Some good and valid points on here from both sides... thanks.

Problem is I have insurance through them as well as greencard recovery, neither of which I will be using and no doubt both of which will again be full price to renew.
Now I dont mind supporting good causes by paying my way during difficult times but CAMC???

To be honest I've only ever been asked once for membership details....
The rest of the time the owners have usually just been delighted with my £6-£10 etc whatever.

It's always nice to have the safety net of having the membership cards etc IF a wild camp etc doesn't pan out.

But they are not starting the annual fee until the sites open I thought??
