Christmas trees

We always use real trees and if they went up now they’d all be bare by Christmas. Jenners in Edinburgh used to put up their real tree at this time of year and it looked dreadful well before Christmas.
Mid December at the earliest for us.

Having a birthday in December it's family tradition never to put decorations up till after 16/12. The town is bedecked and looks really pretty, our tree is still growing in its lot ( sunk in the ground) but probably won't put it up as planning (! Fool!) on setting off for Portugal 19th......might be a last minute change of plans!;)

Our tradition is after my birthday on 20th - or when / if Lee gets it all out of the loft....

20th Dec or Nov? ;)

When I was young, we used to go for the very boring German tradition of Decorations going up on the 24th Dec :( go early and get your moneys worth I reckon :D
We did also do the German Tradition of opening one or two pressies on Christmas Eve, so that bit was good (y)

My Birthday is also in December and even closer to Christmas than yours. I try and remind people that a "combined" Xmas and Birthday present is NOT a birthday present  and you don't get Birthday wrapping paper with raindeers and santas on!!

Like David we have multiple birthdays around christmas 10 between the 12th & the 26th so the kids spent about a fortnight hyper! presents wrapped markedly as either xmas or birthday . Normally we do whole of December tree up first of Dec down first of Jan & normally en route to Portugal 4/5th January so everything ripped down & stuck in boxes this year I got boxes out early to sort lights etc & Jan took that as an invitation so tree up now outside illuminations going up at weekend,

Weve got a virtual light up in the village this weekend so I'm decorating the window with some lights outside but not inside for at least a fortnight. Having a very distanced in the street social own drink and food with neighbours Sat eve. We need some common sense fun in the gloom of Covid.

Talk about fate. I’ll need to learn to keep my trap shut. Guess what I was doing tonight getting the Christmas guff out the loft boss says she’s putting her Christmas tree up Sunday coz every body else has there’s up. Big hypocrite or what. Na I just do what I’m told.

And all them Christmas songs on radio it’s gonna bee a long winter.

Here’s a wee game we play every year we always have a radio playing in the background on site. So you pick a Christmas song round about 20th Nov just say shakin stevens or Maria Kerry and that’s your song for the whole of the Christmas period. In the morning we each put a pound in a tin and who ever song gets played first wins kitty. Can be a good laugh if you have enough people.

I detest the xmas nonsense, why dont folk just go buy a sleeping bag food or hot drinks for the poor sods sleeping on the streets, people hold xmas and call themselves christians, dont look like what i see on the ground.
I'm struggling with some of the adverts and so called celebrities showing their wealth this year So many people have lost loved ones/their jobs, don't know where to turn......it's obscene. I suppose its the same every year but it seems especially wrong at the moment.

As children we too had our tree go up Christmas Eve after we had all gone to bed. As an adult I kept this going but it was very hard work having to spend the whole day cooking the Christmas Eve special meal of Wigilia and then waiting for the children to fall asleep. When the youngest asked if Santa could bring the tree earlier I said I would ask and guess what! Santa agreed so it now goes up a week or two before the big day

neighbours obviously didn’t think so 4 more been done up now , it’s advent now the official start of christmas but got in a little earlier in this crappy year every little helps , got a video of immediate homes lit up but it’s beyond my skills to post ,
