Ok what is good in a ridge monkey
1 Snacks such as toasted Sarnies omelettes
2 What about reheating sauage rolls Cornish pasties
3 What about cooking home made pasties using frozen pastry
Baked potatoes ?
What else ?? is good and quick and easy
Part baked bread ?
Pizza
Corned beef hash

I'm struggling with the concept of the need for a Ridge Monkey type cooking gadget.
Surely it's two frying pans (one on top of another) by another name?
If so, I can cook anything a Ridge Monkey can cook in a covered frying pan - and I know how to turn food over in a frying pan to cook the upper surface.

Or am I missing something?

Colin 🙂🙂🙂

I watched some recipe vids on Youtube this morning. There was a good one on making a pizza (from scratch as well) and also what looked like a very nice corned beef hash.

Omelettes seem very simple too.

Worth spending some time on Youtube I reckon.

The fact it is 2 sided and you and turn it over ?
That it will act more like an oven than a frypan with a lid !
I have not got one just exploring..

The idea of cookig/heating sausage rolls and the like without using our oven
and maybe good for flatbreads ?

Yes a ridge monkey is a thing of beauty and takes up less space than a frying pan and they are the must have gadget in the camping world and for cooking mackerel outdoors they are brilliant 😋😋

Yes...making up more reasons.
Cooking outside eg using the cadac bbq without the cadac grill plate .

I said exactly the same to Mrs GMJ yesterday evening: great minds and all that... :)

It will be much easier and quicker to wash the ridgemonkey compared to the Cadac plate as well.

Our ridgemonkey arrived yesterday. It's smaller than I imagined in my minds eye, but its still a keeper so its in the pile of stuff ready to go in the MH. We are away next Friday for 23 nights so no doubt it'll get an airing then.

I think the ridge monkey is a great idea, the only reason I haven't bought one is they are non stick coated aluminium. I only use stainless, carbon steel or cast for health reasons...

If its not too intrusive, are you able to share what the health reasons are? Is it to do with the ally or the coating?

No personal problems as such, I've just heard a lot of negative press regarding aluminum cookware being linked to Alzheimer's, plus all the non stick coatings seem to get bad comments too. In fairness, my carbon steel frying pans, now they're properly conditioned, are completely non stick & cook better than anything I ever used anyway. I'm sure some of the stories I've heard are not completely accurate, but stainless is easier to keep clean anyway, & cast pans are pans for life if looked after.
I'm a big believer in "buy right, buy once"...

My RidgeKollin.
You've no idea the lengths I go to in order not to subsidise Annie's diesel.

Ok now let's see you turn it over without the lid falling off, or take the lid off without burning your hands when it's been sitting on the hob for 20 mins getting hot.

I got a ridgemonkey instead of my frying pan with a lid, it fits on the hob better without hanging over the edge and it takes up a lot less space in the cupboard. Plus I can use it as two pans - the glass lid on the frying pan wasn't very good at being a second pan.

The Alzeimer's Society don't see an issue, so you would probably be OK...

I find it’s good for reviving things like paninis, ciabbata rolls and croissants which have got a bit jaded. Also used it for toasted sandwiches, it’s much easier turning it over as a complete entity than turning things over in the frying pan.
