Blue Badge

Just an update. Despite the local councillors intervention and my appeal still no badge and told it may take several more weeks. Fortunately Susie has been given a temporary badge whilst her heart fails as she awaits urgent surgery so she can chauffer me to anything essential. We will be very glad to leave as soon as we can.

It's just awful.

I started my renewal online on Thursday I got so far then it wanted proof of ID which I don't have with me, you can save it but I have to complete it in 19 days from then, not going to back by then.

10.5 weeks since I put in the application for my FiL. It says it could be 12 weeks on the website in Gloucestershire , so hopefully should be soon...

12 weeks is a number plucked out of the air I think, you have to apply for renewal 12 weeks before, they all get printed in the same place they need to extract their collective digits and clear the backlog if that's the problem.

Just to update. Today heard that my appeal has been accepted so the badge should arrive in a week. Only valid for a year this time so perhaps I should begin the renewal process fairly soon. Very pleased though as at least I’ll be able to do hospital visits.

Great news bill so it should be accepted genuine case for issue as others would agree beyond doubt I’m sorry to say cause I know you would prefer not to have rely on such sorry things

Well done to both of you. I'm absolutely delighted that things are now moving in the right direction.

The post office or Royal mail have a system where they can verify and confirm your ID.
Look it up. .
It gave Trafford Council all the passport and birth certificate details and an Experian Check that tells them that you have active bank and cards with your address.
Verifying that you're still alive..
Works a treat.
Or did, anyway..
Things may change/improve .

I hope it does turn up in a week. When we had to appeal Mrs GMJ's badge renewal a number of years ago, it still took around 6 weeks to get to us as they didn't put her back at the top of the queue! Hopefully they are a bit more enlightened now.

I think from memory you can start the renewal process 3 months before its due to expire for 3 year ones but not sure if this is the same for 1 year ones.

Well done on the appeal though (y)

Pleased for you both.

Right, my turn, I just filled in my online application for renewal, it's the first time for me so didn't know what to expect, what I didn't expect was for there to be zero questions regarding my current health which is worse after almost three years. I'm wondering if I should ring the council.

My first BB is due for renewal in October, when I applied I had to do the form as normal and then had to be seen by a doctor who was not mine in a nearby town 5 miles away, I knew it was going to be difficult so parked as close as I could and went in very slowly, I was made aware by a friend that the place is littered with CCTV so I was extra careful. The Doc could see it was difficult for me and instead of going to his office I refused and he had to do it in the waiting room, the criteria around here seems that if you can walk unaided 100 yards then you do not need a badge, obviously, there are other reasons a for a badge but I cannot speak to those.

I can on a good day zip around the supermarket, but I have to move fast as I can before the pain kicks in, 5 minutes at the most then I'm done and need to sit for a good while before I dare move again.

I also think we should be given a blue badge to carry with us as a long queue can be very painful for mobility sufferers but we have to stand with everyone else, or perhaps in a supermarket grab an assistant and get them to open one of the many unmanned tills, places seem to think if they put in a ramp then they've done, no, there is more that can be done.
Some supermarkets have mobility scooters available for their customers use within the store. That makes it easier for waiting in a queue.

I let Mrs GMJ do her renewal the first time it was required and I don't know what she did but they tried to take her BB off her! We appealed and at a face to face assessment she had to suffer the indignity of walking around a car park with her sticks, in the rain and being timed!

We won the appeal but she just went to the back of the queue for the renewal then.

There was a wee stooshie developing 2-3 weeks ago with Blue Badges in Europe not being recognised/accepted in 11(?) countries. It seems to have gone quiet; has the problem been resolved yet?

Steve

Prob not Steve. The advice on the Govt website has been unchanged since we left the EU so I am not sure why it hit the headlines the other week tbh.
