Looking for recommendations for sikoflex sealer 521? To fix fan to roof also thinking on the tape first
any recommendations or tips appreciated

The mastic tape is better as it's not as easy to squash it flat.

I get mine via Ebay it's good stuff, but most caravan places should stock it too, this is the brand I use different sizes available.

Gordon, I bought a Mastic Strip Roll [10 metres IIRC] of a 25mm wide [again IIRC] for £11 from Kirkcaldy Caravans for when I was changing the Locker Catches in late September. Easy to mould into plugs for sealing the drill holes etc

20 years ago I was knowledgeable on the uses of Sikaflex and similar adhesive/sealants. I no longer have current details and suggest you try accessing Sika‘s database for advice.

Generally, as an adhesive you need a thick bead, 5mm+, and substrates that are not plastic or paint. Paint and plastic may need a primer to prevent migration damaging the adhesion.

If you only want a sealant with screws for the fixing then I would suggest a silicone sealant.

You really need a mastic to support the weight and pressure from snow and ice, anything in a tube would need a mechanical fixing too.

I did one couple years ago and used tape and sikoflex.
Ran bead off sikoflex on both inside and out side edges of tape never leaked again.
Sounds like a good idea as the mastic can harden in sunlight.

It's all hot air.

Accusations of flatulence can be blown out of all proportion, according to various reports ... (y) :D

Steve, I did suggest hot air ballooning, to b told the earth don't look the same dangling by the ankles with your exhaust fume directed upwards into a balloon. Is this similar to carbon capture? :)

Are we off topic yet?
I think we've been blown off topic by the warm air of flatulence causing thermals [which are ok as long as there is no risk of 'follow through'], Pull up a stool and we can discuss ...

Would you believe that I was bawled out by my Maths Teacher, the incomparable Biffo Cotton, for laughing when he reported his voluntary attendance on a Saturday morning to try and remove the graffiti in the urinals claiming a world record of 5ft 10 ins wall height? It wasn't that that made me laugh, it was his weary resignation in recounting that, quote, 'Nothing would remove the graffiti, not even Gunk, but it did burn a hole in my jumper when I spilled some of it ...' That was thee point at which I lost it, helpless with laughter ... :D

Biffo Cotton was probably the Teacher who had most influence on my education, which is why I can recall his words as though it were yesterday, rather than 54 years ago. A great Teacher, a skilled communicator, a fastidious disciplinarian, but also a man of great compassion, God rest his soul

Dunno, nobody's ever expressed a wish to capture one of mine. In fact I did cause the music to stop at a house warming party some 45 years ago when the Host enquired, 'Who the bloody hell did that?' I had had the foresight to move as far away from the 'delivery point', to avoid the finger of suspicion ... :D

Your out of control rip reminded me of the time as a late teen and along with my latest promising romance returning from Perth to Edinburgh on the bus. Was a great weekend staying with her brother and his wife, Blairgowrie. Saturday night Ceilidh with haggis, tatties and neeps, washed down with mucho Tartan Special Ale, not a great combination for a return bus trip home the following day.

Anyhoooooo, when you have face cheeks puffed up like a chipmunk, you know the ending will not be good, for someone. once released, I got up and said to the lass "was that you" and moved to the closest empty seat :giggle:

It was obvious that the young lady had no sense of humour and this fledgling relationship crashed and burned!!

Had she been wearing tights, you would have known that she was the guilty party, because her ankles would have swelled ... :D

When I moved to Scotland from West Sussex, a work colleague [former public school pupil] wrote in my Leaving Card, 'Marchie, your humour never went beyond the 3rd Form' ... I think I may have caused him to lower his initial assessment (y)
