Thoughts whilst driving in France

... Moved further into the village and I’ve parked outside the Mairie, I’ll move if asked. I remember reading somewhere,sometime ago that it was okay to do that.

Some years ago I bought a new Rapido. I read the owners manual. Even though I'm a bloke. The first few pages said that in the early 1970's the French Govt couldn't decide if it was a good thing or a bad thing to allow motorhomes to park in towns overnight. They instituted an independent survey to find out. The survey said it was a good thing because the motorhomers would spend money in the town. So it became French law that every town mayor has to provide overnight parking for motorhomes. Hooray.
I asked a French person what would happen if a load of travellers turned up and started trashing the place. "Ooh" they said, "the armed Police would arrive with bulldozers and shoo them away.". Wouldn't happen here, would it? Too many Human Rights. Hence we have height barriers and 'no overnight parking' signs. So we go to France.

I’m very sorry Cheyenne, I’m not sure what your point is here. Other than, it’s a thought that you had while travelling in France.

the point is driving on the motorway we sough immigrants walking on the hard shoulder & THOUGHT we wonder where they was going does that help .cheyenne

The European Court of Human Rights is an International Court of the Council of Europe that has jurisdiction across the EU. Its function was partly drafted by Sir David Maxwell Fyfe, an English Barrister, born in Scotland. Every EU Member State has an appointed Judge, and the UK Judge of the First and Second Instance until 2004 was Sir David Edward, latterly Professor Emeritus of International Law at the University of Edinburgh. Sir David is on record as having given [IIRC], in excess of 1300 Judgements in relation to matters under the European Convention on Human Rights in cases brought across the EU, so to suggest that only the UK is singled out for special, adverse treatment is inaccurate and ill-informed

The purpose in having a Judge from each Member State is to ensure that that Judge can object to the adoption of a European Law that would be incompatible with that Member State's domestic law, despite claims to the contrary by UK politicians and the UK media

Moved on .
Now at another site. A bit higher now. St Hilare du Touvet. Tha aire is above the village, saving a great deal of steep walking. I’m pretty much stocked up on food. So no need to move on for a while.
Thinking of dropping into Italy while I’m close by. If only to drop another country on the Polar Steep site.

It's not political; it's a factual reply in response to an inaccurate claim that only UK suffers from losing Court Rulings. I don't want a debate, merely correcting the record. And the 'drop politics' response would perhaps be better directed at the originator, @cheyenne, rather than me

If you are going any further South Del it may be worth seeing if you can get into Paul Richard Circuit near Le Castellet. It’s a lovely walk around the circuit if you can get in.

Or if you go a bit east you might see Hannibal and his elephants at Mont Cenis. Or due south you have Col de Bonette ... the 7th highest paved road in Europe ... stunning views! But you have to like hairpins! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Col_de_la_Bonette

If you are heading into Italy, Colle del Nivolet is a great stop.

SS460 and SP50 north east of Turin. Bit out the way, and a shame it's a dead end, but it is a great drive with a great spot to stop at the end.
It is single track for a good distance so do street view it first. Pretty much empty during week, packed on weekend, don't try to drive up it on a Sunday afternoon, too much traffic coming other way.
Includes a corner all Mini fans will know too.

The idea was to put a step into Italy, just so I could claim another country. Sad bs that I am. Like I did some years ago with Switzerland. The Rhine Falls.
Plus at my time of life , I have to make plans for the future, if only to keep the marbles in place.

If you plan for a meeting you used to be able to stay inside the circuit grounds for free Del. I did the Bol d Or there one year arriving on the Monday before race weekend and had all free camping. They didn’t open showers and toilets back then til nearer weekend though but we didn’t care, we were on our bikes. Wore a tee shirt til it got rank then bought another on circuit and burned old one
