Some years ago I bought a new Rapido. I read the owners manual. Even though I'm a bloke. The first few pages said that in the early 1970's the French Govt couldn't decide if it was a good thing or a bad thing to allow motorhomes to park in towns overnight. They instituted an independent survey to find out. The survey said it was a good thing because the motorhomers would spend money in the town. So it became French law that every town mayor has to provide overnight parking for motorhomes. Hooray.... Moved further into the village and I’ve parked outside the Mairie, I’ll move if asked. I remember reading somewhere, sometime ago that it was okay to do that.

I asked a French person what would happen if a load of travellers turned up and started trashing the place. "Ooh" they said, "the armed Police would arrive with bulldozers and shoo them away.". Wouldn't happen here, would it? Too many Human Rights. Hence we have height barriers and 'no overnight parking' signs. So we go to France.
