another one in trouble !

Just a note that should be added here. It IS illegal to tamper with any part of a vehicles emissions system in the UK, (that's including EGR and DPF valves).

Must be knocking on 30 years when I blanked off the egg on my V6 Vectra, was easy on them, just unbolt, fit blanking plate under EGR job done. Have heard of some folks getting caught out with DPF disabled/removed at MoT time but can't say I have noticed anyone getting caught with EGR removed.

Its best to be aware of things I think, not saying all laws should be obeyed by any means, we are all grown ups so we can each decide

i got quoted £700 for a new axle +20% vat but got to come from italy so had to be paid for up front if i had a hope of making the orkney ferry on the 12th delivery quoted for the 9th 🤞🤞🤞, but thanks for the offer sam
Our bent chassis was £10,500 to straighten and the kerb drop was no worse than a pothole! So a good result. Good luck with the timing for the ferry.

My motorhome is an automatic/manual one. I drive in automatic all the time. Not a high mileage, about 45k I think.
I just hope it's not too an expensive job.
Its just a normal manual with a auto clutch, so may well be as my post.

after trotter blowing up his engine marie having problems and jeff having a heater leak took mine to get timing belt & service at wullys mate while up here he phoned back and said you’ve got a bent rear axle ?? couple of months back i went through a chicane & clipped rear wheel causing a dent in the rim put spare on and got a new rim & tyre from e bay , been driving around without a thought but this is definitely bent causing tyre to wear on inside new part £750 sweating on delivery though quoted 9th july which will make my 12th crossing tight

Hope you get sorted in time for the rally, gives extra days breathing space, Northlink have been very good at changing our crossing (twice) no charge either!

We are having the timing belt, tensioner and water pump replaced next Wednesday, hope they have got the right parts as we are on the road to Orkney on Thursday

I'm having an MOT on Thursday next. It had better pass, we're off to Norway on the 20th. . . . . . .
I've given it a polish so that should sort it . .

OOPS bad English. I should have said my Transit is going in for its MOT, I have had lots of MOTs at various surgeries and hospitals lately so I don't need any more.

Wow, glad that's a Fiat part not a Hymer part... you'd have to part-exchange a kidney!!
In reality, Hymer don't make many parts.
They assemble motorhomes from bought-in parts.
You can often get the part without going through the Hymer mark-up system.

look at this link another two in the 💩IMG_2221.png

Clutch plate stuck to flywheel or release bearing has busted through the diaphram, comon falt with either very high mileage or driver with a left leg problem, remove leg from pedal once moving and after g change & stopped at lights, handbrake nuteral foot of pedal.
I used to have a customer who went through a clutch every week, i kid you not.
Spoke with engineer who says its sounding like clutch - well done Terry.
Unfortunately, he's on holiday for 2 weeks!
I'm thinking that when he's in about things that I get home to change oil? Anything else I should suggest?
Thanks again everyone for giving me feedback, it IS really appreciated.

I'm still trying to make sense of this. What on earth could have cost that much? Did they have to remove and refit lots of bits?

However the Government has been consulting about adding NOx tests to the MOT
I was told that the cost of the testing kid had put them off, but I'm not convinced. The government is happy enough to change the requirements for hardware, always at the garage's (vast) expense.

In The Old Days, you used to get a printout of your actual emissions test result. That was interesting, because it (almost*) always showed the pass was nothing like close. Typically the actual readings were less than a tenth of the permitted maximum.

I suspect that we are no longer allowed to know how clean our 'old bangers' really are - just as old gas boilers are often almost as efficient as brand new ones, but they won't tell you that!

*Almost: I used to have a Peugeot motorhome with a TB Turbos aftermarket turbo, which was tweaked to be /just/ inside the limit. My goodness that was quick! It could out-accelerate a family saloon of that era, as long as the front wheels could get traction.

When you say the garage's expense what you mean is the owner's expense. Just the same as "XXX Water Company was fined £3,000,000" what they mean is that XXX water company customers were fined £3,000,000.

True, but either way, the government doesn't pay for it.

Change brake flued if in over 4 years, make sure rear wheel cylinders are free and no leaks, also top up gearbox oil or change if high miles covered.

Thanks Trev for reminding me about brake fluid. I wouldn't be surprised if my brake fluid is 1999 . . . . .
And, I paid a garage to do a regular oil and filter service and although they use quality oil, I noticed today that the filter is proudly stamped with "Made in China". so tomorrow that will be in the bin and replaced with a quality one . . . . . . . ..
which will probably have been made in China .. . . . .but with a quality name . . . .

Brake flueds are a common thing folk dont do, best changed at least every 4 years or less.
Watched a utube on filters, it would suprise you that even some of the top names are cr-p, and yes most stuff is made in china.

We had a 40 year old boiler replaced and the new boiler is way more efficient! Our gas use dropped by a third after that.
40 years old isn’t what I was thinking of when I wrote 'old'. I had up to about 20 in mind.
Anything as old as 40 predated the fuel.price increases so was not built with economy in mind at all.

Brake fluid made in Spode china is very posh ... Brake fluid made in the People's Republic of China may be less effective than the stuff made in Cuba during the Castro regime sanctions era ... :ROFLMAO:
