Ordered a Road Pro 12v slow cooker in time for Druridge, but it didn't show up in time. Now we are home again I tried it yesterday for our evening meal. Thinking it would take 6-7 hours, like my normal slow cooker, I started the process at 10am by 2pm 2 chicken drumsticks, 2 thighs and veg were cooked - well impressed - had to reheat for our evening meal. It knocked a bit off the van battery but soon charged up again. Would definitely recommend. https://www.amazon.co.uk/RoadPro-12...62973&sr=8-1&keywords=roadpro+12v+slow+cooker We paid £26.90 for it though, not sure what the new pricing is all about!

Thank you for the recommendation, I never even knew you could get a 12v slow cooker. Am going to order one asap.

Just read the description: "It has also been designed with a strap to secure the lid for when you are on the move. "

Not sure I want to drive with my beef stew cooking in the back

It says to put the elastic on anyway, I suppose that keeps the lid sealed tight. We thought about driving with it in the sink but the lead isn’t long enough! (It’s a fairly generous length)

Sounds really good Sue. I've still got my Wonderbag but haven't used it much... maybe I should give it another try.
I couldn't use anything 12v on the move because all power to the hab area is cut off as soon as I turn the ignition, except the relay to the fridge of course.

I was talking to Wanderlust - Paul and Ruth - recently and they've got a Mr D's thermal cooker that looks amazing. You start it off on the stove but then it keeps cooking for up to 7 hours afterwards without power. Lovely product but very expensive at around £100.

Our power cuts off too, but did think of running it from the cigarette lighter socket on the dash? Would need a longer cable though!

You can make your own with a box and packing/insulation Jennie if you want to

I bought one of Mr D's thermal cooker or whatever it's called. Not impressed, it was a nice looking item but food was indifferent, undercooked and it wasn't very hot when we got it out either so I sold it. Very interested in the 12v slow cooker, will be having a look at that.

Used to have one and wrapped kitchen hot mitts around it and placed it behind drivers chair when on the move. And in a washing up bowl. Cooked food great but only big enough for one meal, so no freezing a portion for another time.

We had a problem with ours and had to return it to roadpro. They established we had burnt out the element. We got a second one with a discount but that didn’t last as long as the first. Roadpro said it could be our van cigarette lighter wiring, but everything else used on that was fine. I have subsequently read that you should not connect it when you switch the engine on or off.

We read that too, just like the phone etc must make sure to remove from socket before turning on or off the engine! We wouldn't be able to freeze a meal as the ice box in the fridge is only an icebox, doesn't freeze very well but will keep stuff frozen.

We got one from Wilko about 5 years ago 1.5ltr, I made a special ventilated box for it and it lives behind the drivers seat, only 100w so I plug it into the inverter on longish trips, dinner is ready me lady.

The inverters can easily be wired direct to the LBs so not a problem.

Sue, isn't there room right at the front between the 2 cab seats... I'm thinking of the bit level with your feet? I've often got my little cadac in that spot in mine - lots of space. I know it's a different cab though.

We have two dogs in that space but a different cab :)

We have a 300W inverter directly wired at the front just for a slow cooker, we just put it in a cardboard box behind the drivers seat (LHD) and place a towel over it for extra insulation and to stop the dogs lifting the lid if we go in to a supermarket ;), after driving for the day in the Winter it is lovely to have a meal ready as you pull up, I don't have any sockets wired to the ignition, all mine are live all the time

Possibly will need to look, but it's remembering to disconnect before turning off/turning on engine as that would blow whatever it is in the slow cooker

I know what you mean. I never remember to disconnect the phone or iPad when I stop and start but no harm done so far - fingers crossed!
Come to think of it, my satnav and dashcam are always plugged in too.
