Sprinter pre-heater

Oh i would love to have a diff lock !

And Mark61 has two (front and rear)

Yes that’s a bit fancy compared to mine, 4 wheel drive yes?

I do have some documents for pre and post 2007 sprinters that i can send you that may help

I have also fitted these heaters to my cars ( a webasto heater ) and in the winter thay really are a superb thing to have
Hi Treck if you could email me a copy of the heater, I have the heater behind the passenger side front bumper (RHD), but I haven’t got a clue how it works, cheers AL

This morning we found our Sprinter 316 is fitted with an Eberspächer Hydronic D 5 W Z water heater to preheat the engine. Can anyone tell me how this is supposed to work and where fuses are located please?

As my van is fitted with a calorific this pre-heater will also supply hot water to the habitation area
Have a look at the Mercedes Benz owners forum

Well, well, well, we left our one day of EHU behind on Thursday and Caz has just had a piping hot shower, it works but still not sure if it is possible with engine off but works a treat with engine running :)

Thanks for all the input folks great feedback as usual. Shout if anyone knows how to get it running without engine though :)

Hi Nosmos King

I cant remember if i sent them
But will do later this evening when i find them on my PC

Nosmos King

Email sent as requested

Two of the docs at first glance appear identical

But one is if you have just the auxiliary heater switch And the other if you also have the module timer

They are the same docs I got aren’t they Trek? No point me sending anything is there? Still not figured out what the second switch with the wavey lines going down does but that’s for another day :)

On my NCV3 sprinter i have upgraded the Mercedes factory fitted Auxillary heater to add the Pre heater function

The process included changing the single position toggle switch to a two position toggle switch ( up or down)

The one position will start up the pre heater mode without the engine running or ignition key in
So this warms up the engine block and provides some heat to the cab via the heater matrix

The other position is for the auxiliaryheater mode which fires up the eberspacher only when the engine is running to boost the coolant temp circulating around the heater matrix to provide more heat to the cabin and to warm the engine up quicker

I have just spent a load of time trying to find out why mine did not start. In the end after looking for electricafaults /fuses , Ifilled the tank up and all was fine , there is a cutout switch that turns it all off when it goes below 1/4 tank.
Mine is disabled from heating the water system unless the engine is running, it is a booster to raise the temperature of the engine/heater system in very cold weather only. Bit pointless if it does not have the preheat facility which was changed off for Hymer, but that is how they specified the A class sprinter . CHECK YOUR FUEL TANK LEVEL. Would have saved me an hour or so. If you have the double action switch then the bottom half put on the preheated, by using the steering wheel button but it is a bit of gobbleguck trying to understand those buttons. Mine only has a single wavy line switch.

Your set up can be changed to add the engine pre heater function

Method depends on model

Much easier on T1N

the NCV3 post 2007/2008 model you need MB dealer to add code to ECU so you will have to pay a dealer to do this
( though it can be done with a pc connected to engine management system if you fancy doin* a bit of hacking )

Do you know what is involved getting it to run with engine off Trek and if I were to do it would it be better to power from the leisure bank?

Of top of my head isn't it covered by the document “upgrading eberspacher heater in T1N sprinter Pre 2007 “ that i uploaded on thread 12 .

Let me check again as I was looking how to get it working then rather than changing anything :)
