Well I will be when I get fully loaded

I just took my 2011 Burstner Nexoxo T660 into the local weighbridge as I knew I was likely to be getting too close to the limit for comfort. I’m rated at 3500, 1850front, 2000rear

And the results are in...... overall 3460, 1600front 1850 rear.

It was half full of fuel, negligible water and no clothing, passenger or food stuffs. Filled up I’d expect that little lot to be another 250kg.

Oh dear, deep in the mire! So I’ll be looking at uprating ASAP. I’ve got C1 and no need to worry for a long while yet. I’ve got airsuspension on the rear already, but I’m running on 15 inch wheels.

Will I need to have 16” wheels and tyres? Any thoughts?
 
Have a look on the plate to see if the design weights are higher than the GB weights. If so you can apply to go up, if not you are stuck. A firm called SV Tech might be able to assist.?

SV tech will uprate the Ducato light chassis to 3700kg without modifications. When I enquired some years ago they wanted air suspension to uprate to 3850kg. That was keeping the 1850/2000kg axle limits. They would uprate the axles with higher load rated tyres.
 
I uprated ours a from 3500kg to 4000kg few months ago and for that I needed uprated front springs, air assist on rear springs and rear tyres from 109 to 112 load rating but still 15ins
 
We used JR Consultancy last year uprated from 3500 to 4100 total cost £150 no vat charged, it was just a paper exercise as ours has the heavy weight chassis with 16” wheels fitted.

I know of SVTech and had already asked them a couple of hours ago. I found out about JOhn Ruffles somewhere else and have sent him a question too.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to get away with higher rated tyres on 15” wheels as I believe the pcd is different on 16s on my chassis, thanks Eurajohn ?

Alternatively - I do nothing and hope ?. As I’ve already got air suspension my arse end looks high all the time, and so there’s no obvious need to be checked by a curious DVSA or other official, a cursory glance would show ample spring curvature ?

if you have a light chassis on 15" wheels it will be 5x118pcd. The original 16" wheels were 5x130 but 16" steel and alloy wheels with 5x118pcd were introduced around 2014. keep one eye on your tyre pressures, not all the same per van, ok pj
 
Well no answer from either SVTech or JRConsultancy today so far.

I’ll ring tomorrow.

225/70R15 tyres have a higher load rating sufficient for what I’ll need, so there’s one issue resolved I hope - then I’ll need to sell 4 barely used Mich Agilis 215s. Ho hum.

AFAICT, you can't. FWIW, my van had been downplated from 3850kg to 3500kg by a previous owner (who hadn't modified the plates), so I had no reason to doubt the dealer when they said it was rated at 3850kg and had a huge surprise when it turned out to be 3500kg on the V5. The dealer agreed to get the vehicle re-plated to the original spec and used SV Tech. I had to send a photo of the VIN plates and got a certificate back, which I then had to send to DVLA with a V62 (application for a registration certificate), which DVLA promptly lost. I then emailed them scans of the V62 and the certificate from SV Tech and had to pay the new rate of VED before DVLA would issue my new V5. The thing is that the DVLA would not update the vehicle records unless they had a report from a recognised, competent engineer. HTH, Geoff
 
I’ve decided to entrust the exercise with JRConsultancy. Talking to him and discussing my existing tyres and rear air suspension he assures me I can go from 3500 up to 4100. That will help my payload! I’ll worry about C1 some years in the future.
 
I had a big problem with my van when I started looking for tyres, my van has been uprated to 4tonnes with the front axle rated at 1750kgs and the single tyre rear axle at 2430kgs. I am running Mercedes 15" alloys and could not find a tyre that would take the weight of the back axle.

I went to a few wheel and tyre places and they were unsure I had clearance on the from for 16" wheels without arch work but also inner arches looked like they may be a problem. I didn't find any of the heel deals online that were stamped and up to the weight and mine are 5 stud. I am aware that all things are possible from my car mod days but I am a bit old and knackered for this sort of work now.

Eventually with the help of SVTech and Continental Technical support we found only Continental manufacture a tyre that will take the loading on my van.

So you can indeed get a tyre that will take the weight on your 15" rim and i can save you a lot of heartache and searching :)

Only upgrading to MPVW from 3500 to 3700 or more, is not enaugh.
The rear axle is becoming the most weight, and now only has 150 kg reserve.
With the upgrade the MPAW rear shoul also be highened up.
Also overloading an axle can , if weighed by trafic police, give you a penalty or even have to unload.ss

Wont introduce myself in a seperate topic , because I dont own a motorhome anymore , and mostly react to tyre and tyre-pressure related questions.
 
I have heard back from JRConsultancy and I’m on the way to going from 3500 to 4100 with no changes to tyres, I already have air suspenders on the rear. I’ve paid his invoice and now just await the weight plate. Sometime this week perhaps? ?
 
Then rear MPAW probably upgraded to 2400 wich need at least Loadindex 115 is maxload 1215 kg a tyre.
Mayby then 10PR needed with AT 80 or 77 psi.
Front can stay the same with its 1850 kg .
 
When googling the sise 225/70R15 I only found one E-load/10pr from Petlas with loadindex 116.
Michelin only gave the 112 loadindex, also in the CP ( camping pneu) wich I know give only maximum alllowed pressure of 80 psi but maxload is caldulated for 69 or 70 psi. So if MPAW rear 2400 kg , these are not allowed because 2x 1120 kg = 2240 kg.
2240+1850= 4090kg so MPAW's together lower then 4100, and mostly about 150-200kg more toghether then MPVW.
Because your total weight is probably no more then 3800 kg , rear axleweight probably 2240 kg yust enaugh for the 2 tires.
On busses sometimes MPAW is for law yust the 2 or 4 tires together maximum load, so MPAW restirichted by the tyres that fit.
 
A heads up on what has happened in the past few weeks.

I have now received my revised weight plate showing a total gvw going from 3500 to 4100. Total cost of £180.

I’ve sent off my V5 and the declaration to DVLA and wait for a new one and a refund on my RFL.
 
And what max permissable axle-loads now, especially rear? And what sise and loadindex/maxload tyres you have now?
