90 days travel insurance

As a matter of interest I searched for insurance a couple of months ago, we’re both under 70, but with a string of medical issues, not least my heart bypass op and her COPD. A 12 months cover from LV was just over £500 pa.
So I paid up and travelled, I can’t take it with me so I’ll spend so we can enjoy things as best we can.

Hopefully 3rd time lucky it will be Norway for us too.
Don't forget it seems to be the case that a single trip can be much more expensive than the multi trip which allows as many trips and up to 90 days per trip. Why it's cheaper I don't know.

I have read that food (eating out) and booze is expensive over there but also it is cheaper if you are eating out to do it at lunchtime rather than in the evening.
As long as you are not looking for haute cuisine some of the supermarket chains do wholesome food at lunchtime in their cafeterias, I have a distant relative who works for the Bunnpris chain and she occasionally posts pictures of lunchtime meals at reasonable prices.

Yes I have come to a similar conclusion !
It may be because the countries covered by multi-trip are much fewer etct
Turkey being a particular example.
Will be checking again tomorrow.
Multi-trip monthly payments cost a tiny bit more but quite handy imo.
Lofs of checking needed but for use multi-trip covers western Europe and Scandinavia..
( I suggest look at Finland carefully)
Even though we do not go until may I am considering paying up now @ £12 a month !

No mountain food then ?

Not our experience re Multi-Trip being dearer! LV Multi Trip for us £191; when we were considering a [roughly] 180 Days trip, that would involve breaking the holiday to return to UK to avoid breaching Unoccupied Property House Insurance, we looked at 2 x Single Trip Travel policies, each for 90 days. LV wanted £656 for each policy!

It was not about multi trip being dearer...............it was that paying monthly was a little bit dearer than making one payment.
So hopefully we're all back to agreeing that multi trip can often be cheaper than single trip, without understanding why.

I have not noticed multi trip covering less countries than single trip are you sure @jagmanx
Ours with LV certainly covered Turkey.

True, but the overpriced APR applies to every policy where monthly premiums are chosen; Contents, Buildings, Vehicle, Travel so why focus on just the Travel? Makes the monthly premium point redundant

Tried Staysure and Avanti. Both restricted to 35 days away on multi trip policies.
Looks like I may be able to insure with LV, for a multi trip, 90 day, at £214 pa. 🤞
Although I’m unable to make a policy until nearer my trip date.

Isn't there some new legislation about having to offer renewing customers the same price as new ones............oh perhaps it's just been abandoned....................... to feed the free for all frenzy.
Looking forward to Norway next year.............eating out .............are you mad Graham.................well perhaps eating outside the van.

Yes you are right Pete but I suspect that they may claim that the difference in my quotes may have been as I did it online.

Anyway I renewed at £168 and set the settings not to auto renew next year as I suspect I'll do the same thing again. I did the usual comparison site searches but none came up with 90 days cover for each trip.

I have not seen anywhere that does 90 days multi trip at a similar price to LV.
It will cost you more if you decide to pay monthly ;)

That os what I meant Steve !

Thanks to all.
Last summer we used Avanti and have been guessing at £250 for 90 days in Europe (Sweden & Norway) for 2people.
So the LV figues at under £200 are promising.
Indeed my rough budget for health insurance was £250
Then we have the Tunnel @£250
Puttdarden Ferry and Oresund bridge £150
Internal Norway ferries and tolls £150
Ferry to Hirrtsals £250
£1000 for 90 days.
Realistically mabe £1,100
This is £12:50 a day.
Planning hoping expecting the cheap camping will compensate for the "infrastructure costs"
Yes the bad news is fuel will be more expensive.
My estimate being 12gallons a week (55ltres)
Price in Sweden today is just over £2
Norway slightly less
Norway and Denmark tolls much cheaper with BroBizz

These toll passes like BroBizz seem rather complicated and any further explanation would be appreciated.

As far as I understand you register with one of the companies who are authorised to collect tolls after the trip.
Do some offer discount on ferries as well? Do some offer discount on the bridge as well.
Do they in fact all offer the same discount
Basically are they all the same ?

For Norway Fremtind seem good.
Pay up front but get refund!
Same with Ferry company (ferre norge ? )

You can look up brobizz.com for details. It takes a bit of digesting. When we went it was worth it even for the return crossing of The Bridge. If you look up the bridge on the website there’s a map showing where else you can also use it.

Fremtind gives ferry discounts
And you can get in Norway
The biggest charge on this route is the ferry
It takes 1 hour from just south pf Narvik

Need to read small print but seems a good deal . Medical expenses only £100k ? Assume that is more than enough in Europe?
The basic policy for us was €336, or the enhanced version was €572, for 180 days. The cheaper version provides all the benefits to the injured party, but very little to the spouse who is not ill, but who may be required to extend their stay [unable to drive etc], so hotel bills/site fees etc would have to be paid from your own pocket. The more expensive policy provides cover for the 'not ill' spouse's return to UK, Ferry amendment fees, extended stays et al, plus higher hospital benefits

We haven't bought the Cover because hospital appointments and Jury Service have killed the 6 months trip for this year, We'll probably struggle to make 90 days, but there's always next year ...

We parked between 2 Dutch couples at Sully sur Loire in July and got good background info on Travel Insurance cost and duration. In a nutshell, the likes of Axa Europe have to provide long term cover because EU Freedom of Movement gives unlimited duration of stay [subject to 90 days per State at any one time] and Insurance laws have to respond [the first couple spend 9 or 10 months away each year, 'depends on how much time we need for the Doctor, Dentist and Car/Motorhome Technician'] and have no problems with house insurance, car insurance for his almost abandoned VW car or Travel Insurance.

In contrast, UK is no longer EU Member, so 2 x 90 day trips are the practical maximum, and there is no law to require the ABI to write policies for much longer, and little commercial incentive for them to do so. 2 different entities, 2 differing markets ...
