That said though when are you joining our club?

Next time I see you opening your garage door, I hope to see a Jackery falling out, along with your Honda Gennie, yon stuff you feed the Efoy with, along with your smoker, and all yon other junk you hide in MH garage ๐Ÿ˜‚

Just taken delivery of the 240 mainly to run the electronics on the combi boiler at home in the event of the projected power cuts. We are to have our lass and the family over Christmas for the whole school holidays and not having hot water/heating is a non starter.

Got it from Amazon for ยฃ208, after a 20% discount, so not crazy money for a back up.

Cheers

Enjoy harold I've no complaints and very very useful bit o gear inho

Iโ€™ll find other uses for it Gordon but with the boiler taking 95/105w when running the heating, if I get a couple of hours out of it Iโ€™ll be happy.

Strangely the fan came on after charging a cordless toothbrush for a couple of hours. Itโ€™s gone silent again now so Iโ€™ll just leave it overnight and see what happens.

Winks, I intend to do same using Jackery to power GCH system if power outages do happen over winter months. Using daily to boil travel kettle for the morning cuppa, with stove boiling kettle in the evening when fired up. A positive for us motorhome is, during any outages, we can fall back on our MH 12 volt system when required, and if stored at home, which ours is.
Gordon, if I had my Jackery last weekend, we could have produced yon MacJackery promo clip ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well, Iโ€™m running the heating boiler for a trial tonight and it is down to 72% after an hour. That should be 3 to 4 hours if just running heating. Should do ok if the heating isnโ€™t on.

This the smallest unit 240 so you people with the larger units will be fine. Incidentally, this is easy for me because the boiler is fed through an ant surge plug after having one main board killed by a surge (ยฃ300 to get that fixed.

Thanks for the update Winks, some peace of mind knowing you have a backup if an outage does occur (y)

Two hours in now and water drawn for washing up. That drew a max 110W when the tap was open. Seems to bumble along at around 12W when running just heating. In that case, it should do five or six hours if no call for domestic hot water.

Three hours and down to10%.

If these โ€œplannedโ€ three hour outages do go ahead we should be ok.

Finally dropped out at 31/2 hours.

As of yesterday Amazon weโ€™re doing 20% off the list prices for Prime customers.

Something wrong there if your boiler has a 3 pin plug on it, it should be wired through the motor valves and control unit back to the fuse box, how would the living room stat turn that of, time to get a proper heating engineer in.heating valves.pngprogrammer.pngroom stat.pngtank stat.png

I am planning to do similar, Trev. A temp move to fit a plug to utilise Jackery if outages occur over winter period. I have already discussed this with my work colleague, who delivers gas training and is gas safe registered, he also installed my new Worcester Bosch boiler two year ago this month. Dougs will point to me how to do this, safely, during this month yearly service.

Boilers have there own stats within too, so no worries there. Me, I dont have a room thermostat (perfectly good reason for this) all rads bar one have TRV's fitted, boiler takes care of the rest.

Before I met Nida my retirement plans were for a cottage or bungalow somewhere away from the south east.
There plans included a sensibly sized genny in its own shed as backup.
And a multifuel stove with a hot water function.
Not needed in Thailand.
Biggest potential problem being flooding.
Many areas very badly affected with water 3/4 way up the stilts.
No electric probably but many many use bottled gas for cooking (and or wood and charcoal).
The leccy infrastructure seems very robust. No brownouts so far this winter.
And only 1 or 2 all last winter.
Main problem being lighting and internet.
We have 2 "magic" solar powered mini floodlights.
Each has its own solar panel (about 1ft square) and a 5metre wire to the led light (pir) with built-in battery.
"I'm all right Jackery".
Gas (single burner) charcoal (bbq) and induction (rarely) and a large heated (95deg or so) flask for T&C

The stat on the boiler is an emergency over heat stat, there is a second one inside the gray box incase the main one fails, these should not be used to control the heat in the house, and how would they know what temp the living room is at, get the mates to sort it out proper, and old sys like your set up was banned from 2007 and should have been upgraded from then, mind you no one seems to check this here as 90% are ill fitted.

Trev, I had my system designed to meet the needs of my 250+ year old home, which has three floors. I can isolate each floor CH pipework, for example, if I need to remove a rad on ground floor, I isolate floors two and three, then drain ground floor only, and as you will know, I can isolate the individual rad being worked on without draining every ground floor rad.

Thermostats are normally located within a hallway, my heating would never be off if I had a stat within hallway, which is large and cavernous over the three floors. System was designed to work via TRV's, and use of boiler stat. And as boiler is outside in my boiler house ( I use to have oil ) pump, motorised valves, water filter, are all within boiler house, easy to maintain, with no mess in house when being serviced, frost stat also in place.

My system was planned out by an expert gas system engineer, it was he who stated, due to unique layout of my rooms over three floors, it would be difficult to place a room stat, which would/could leave other rooms cold when room where stat would is located said no heat required. TRV's work well for me.
