anyone going south for the winter ??

The danger of robbery. Is this an actual experience or anecdotal ?
I'm not saying this doesn't happen. But a lot of these stories are, a bloke down the pub, has a friend, who met someone, who knew someone who had been robbed.
yes well its only what we have read you have to take what people with a pinch of salt unless you know them but the gas thing is a load of shyt in my mind . Spain doesn't seem as bad as it was 10 years a go but the only thing i have seen was a guy when in to a supermarket in spain with his wife & when they came out they had been robbed .they ripped ( rolled ) the passenger door from the bottom & must of pushed a child in to open the door .he was in Brownhill's getting an price for a new door & that i had seen myself .cheyenne

Could have been worse: could have been gassed in their sleep! ;)
I had a friend who knew no one & hadn't met anyone, but was gassed & knocked out with his Mrs whilst pulled up in France a few yrs ago. They both woke up with horrible headache then realised they had been robbed only just started there Holi....apparently used to happen a lot to long distance Lorry Drivers.

We were staying at a campsite south of Barcelona some years ago when a couple pulled in next to us. They had been robbed on the motorway around Barcelona. A posh car (possibly a merc) had indicated to them that there was something wrong with their van. This car drove on without stopping. Shortly afterwards another posh car indicated the same. The couple stopped on the hard shoulder as did this car. One of the very well dressed but non English speaking went and looked under the van. He indicated that he had fixed the problem. Drove off. That's when the lady realised that her handbag had gone. She told me "everything was in it. Passports, reg docs, money, cards". She was distraught.
That's why everything needs to be split up and hidden. Very little that can be stolen.
as soon as we get in the m/h we put everything in the safe ( always had one ) & just leave a few euros for bread etc etc .cheyenne

yes we found touring was a pain before retirement ( 20 years next feb ) 2 weeks here 3 weeks there but always had a good time at villasol but preferred la torreta as near shops & restaurants for the wife our first time was back in 2004

We stayed at La Torreta opposite Villasol 5 yrs ago for 3 nights but our plot was behind the tall school block so was in the shade from lunchtime onwards ,,,. Now just stay at Villasol as made quite a few friends on there that are Residents ,,,, Thers a new Lidl about to open by The Corner Bar & as now will be taking 2 x "e" scooters that we bought will be whizzing round 😀

Not the only one's trying to get out.

We used to do Calais to Spain, but now just go via Santander as by the time u have taken cost of tolls & fuel thru France into account etc etc not much difference IMO & we make the Ferry crossing as part of the holiday ,,,,

Which is great until Biscay is in a maelstrom I guess!

just bought the le shuttle tickets return (£357 29th dec to 24th march 87 days ) 3 days to spare 🤫i know its cheaper on the ferries BUT since P&O sacked their staff the food is shyt & after useing them since 1971. cheyenne

We are doing southern Spain again for 8 weeks. First time last year, mostly sunny although not high temps and frosty at night. We enjoyed a cmc rally at Allania although the site is a bit isolated, more touring this time. Looking forward to it.

There's always DFDS out of Newhaven. And no, I won't be using POOOO again either.

The Newhaven Dieppe ferry. I suppose it's a matter of, your starting point, where your heading for, and how much time you want to spend on a boat.
For me, travelling from Northampton, I can go south on the M25, avoiding the Dartford Bridge. And once in France I'm already a good bit south of Calais. Got to admit, the crossing is probably an hour to long.
Using the train or any of the Dover crossings? Okay if I was heading east, and I will later in the year. There's a DFDS, or Brittany Ferry choice.
Again, you can save a few miles by sailing to Dunkirk.
Another plus. Using DFDS, elderly passengers enjoy a discount, if booking by phone.

we winter right next to the sea & high mountains behind & as you will know Spain can have some very high winds last feb we had to drop the tent & some people dropped their awning about 4 times 🤬.on vineros camping about 2010 we woke up to high winds & the damage was horrendous ripping awnings off caravans & the worst one was a m/h with a safari room on the side & the wind had ripped it away from the m/h it looked like a can opener had gone along the side the guy was well gutted  . we never even leave our wind out awning for that reason sorry if i put a dampener not intended & benidorm isn't to bad for wind especially villasol as we have stayed there many times . but must admit your looks to have plenty of room (y) . cheyenne
