Autosleepers...don't they think about these things???

Sorry to repeat on this site...but just in case...

Looked at data for new Autosleeper Nuevo ES. Its the best Tardis we can find that fits our drive. It has overcab bed space to use for storage...but its 3.005m high. What! Why 5mm over 3m when it could have been 5mm under (nobody would have noticed the difference) and thereby in theory avoided...category 3 prices on motorways..and eye watering prices for using Alpine tunnels...and slipped under 3m height barriers.

Has anyone got a short van over 3m and had any problems with such charges? In practice does the extra drag of the overcab significantly effect fuel consumption?

Having produced a van that high they then give it a low-line roof at the back...meaning reduced headroom, less cupboard space than previous models; kitchen cupboards, cooker and work-surfaces too low...whats the point!!!

I also wonder why when the rest of the market is removing timber from shell construction they doggedly persist in putting off customers with old technology...whilst at the same time ditching things that were good in their previous models...Arrrrgh!

Has anyone got a recent Nuevo and got any feedback / comments? Is it possible the fit a larger gas tank...it looked possible on the older version but I have my doubts about this one?

Why not ask the question on autosleeper owners forum (Google it, it's free).

A lot of the charging systems on the tunnels etc are auto detected off beams, so every mm will count. British manufacturer not considering a common issue when outside the UK. But most foreign vans have the door on the wrong side inc mine.

Is the Nuevo actually that high in real life or is that the declared clearance including a few mm ‘just to be on the safe side’?

Even though we are 4,100kg gross it still comes in as Class 2 in the automatic toll booths because we are low profile 2.85m :Thumbs_Up_Hand_Sign

Yes, tried that..its all user names, passwords, what model of Autosleeper do you have, and so on. Requires 'board' approval before they'll let you in. Don't know why...perhaps they don't like prospective buyers asking questions of those who already have one? Hmmm!

The vetting was brought in after a major spam invasion couple of months ago.
The web info as well as metric measurement gives a height of 9' 10". If you Google that to convert to metric you get 2.997 metres. I would ask a dealer to physically measure one or go yourself. Derby Motorhomes have every model on show and I believe SMC may also have all models.

There’s a autosleeper group on Facebook much easier to join and a friendly group

Yes I get that too. In their technical data Autosleepers state...3.005m, 9" 10", so which is right?...only hairsplitting, but potentially expensive hairs! Tend to agree with others, if thats unladen shouldn't be a problem...not with the amount of stuff we carry.

I feel your pain, somewhat.

We have a Wiensberg 601 MQH - it's 3.2m high (although I've not checked it completely yet - I can't reach the roof!), so we're going to get hammered on Toll roads (if we ever need them).

Didn't know about the Alpine tunnels - that's interesting.

Our van is a tad over 3m high and we have never been charged class 3 on any tolls in France. If you do get charged class 3 on an autotoll, press the contact button on the machine and tell them you are a Camping Car and they should drop it to class 2
we tried that a few times when we had our 3.5m high 7.5 tin Winnebago and got at with it a few times and were charged class 2 at all manned tolls. We even got through one autotoll as a Class one, a motorcycle!

Similar responses on AS forum- when loaded it will drop, let tyres down a bit etc. No firm measurements yet. Brand new 2018 models don't usually get delivered until March so may have to wait unless it's externally the same as a 2017 model.

Any one got any recommendations for good Autosleeper Dealer. Last time we made the mistake of going to nearest dealer...big mistake! This time we want to look for quality of service...if such a thing exists!

Derby motorhomes is a autosleeper agent, not been there myself but have heard good reports about them
