BLUE BADGE ENTITLEMENT

I just apply for a new one and agree that nothing has changed here.

I don't understand why they have to be different elsewhere. Scotland is £20, and Wales is free.
You have to send new award letter as well as ID here Kev. No problem with that answer think its better than just saying nothing has changed as it should reduce issue of badge where its not entitled.

Friend of a friend has one leg and has to reapply . Leg is unlikely to grow back?

I am the same but I don't see a problem in making it harder to stop fraud. Not like they demand a medical each time, its just the documentation you get sent through plus stuff like ID so everyone has it

Yea understand that . My grievance with the system is quite simple . My quality of life (I know) is affected by my medical condition. A BB would help a lot . In my simple mind surely that is what a BB is for ?

yes that is what a BB is for. I don't know if it still works now, (or even if area dependent) but you used to be able to have a doctors consultation to see if you qualified if you didn't receive DLA/PiP etc. I know in Derbyshire you used to be able get a BB issued for shorter time periods for short term problems, (e.g. broken legs).

Here you apply and , unless it is a slam dunk , you get tested. Doctor's letter makes no fekkin difference.
I would argue the bar is set far too high . If someone is 75 and struggles to walk any distance give them a BB
What difference does it make ?

Years ago in England the badges were issued differently, it wasn't the local councils, can't remember where though. A lot of the issues seem to be since it has gone to Councils as before if you had trouble walking or carrying things at any age you could get a badge. Was the welfare officer at the hospital I was recovering from sorted both my DLA and first Blue Badge if I remember correctly.

Not sure if it ws the same and has changed the same in Scotland, Wales etc as only ever had to do it in England. Don't know if it would make any difference but is it worth asking at nearest hospital to you if they know more?

Suspect things have really tightened up . Again I have to ask why . Old codgers with health problems, give them all badges !
My sister who has some serious health issues was renewing her BB recently and got refused . Unbelievable!
She reapplied and was interviewed in the local library by the librarian. Won her case . Should never have been a problem.

Abuse is the biggest problem, and we've all seen it, there's a builders van that is always parking in Sainsburys carpark here, he's on his own usually and he looks fit as anything, it could be he needs access to the toilet or something, but when challenged he told me to **** off.

Similarly my wife has multiple health problems but has been turned down a blue badge.

We live in Bedfordshire but right on the Cambridgeshire border. Her GP (who is in Cambridgeshire) told her that if we lived in Cambridgeshire she would get one without any problems whatsoever. It's very annoying when we see people we know in Cambridgeshire who have BB's but don't have a fraction of the problems that Julie has.

Is it worth contacting your MP Rob, sometimes they can move mountains.

My mum had a BB but no car. It was handy to have whever we took her out.

You can usually fit a motorhome in a disabled bay, and she loved to be taken places and not have to struggle from the far end of the carpark, where there were spaces.

When she went into a care home, her badge didn't get renewed for some reason.

Why dont they give you a credit card sized one as well?

I think it very much depends on your area too. We live in Staffordshire. When I first applied 4 years ago I was expecting a long wait. I applied by email and sent a jpeg of my MRI results stating that I had scoliosis and osteoarthritis and within a couple of hours I'd received an email stating that it had been approved and giving me the badge reference number.

'Not all handicaps are visible', especially when it is one that needs toilet access. Don't have to have a Zimmer Frame or mobility scooter to need to use the Toilet with the wheelchair on the door badge ....

The fee in Scotland is 'up to £20' and is set by each Council. The difference in qualifying criteria etc between the constituent parts of UK are covered by Devolution

I have a feeling it may be because care homes usually have a badge available for when they take residents out. Did you mum try to renew and it was actively refused though, it isn't an automatic process? If not she may be able to get one if she applies again, may be wrong (again) but I think you can apply for her.

You can apply for an incapacitated person.
