My trusty canon dslr is fine but maybe a new camera as above
Sony is £350 or so.
Canon is £580
The canon is slightly lighter and maybe even more of a zoom.
I seek opinions as to whether it is worth the extra £230 ???

My current view is to buy the Sony !
 
My question would be if you are a Canon owner already, are you using any accessories on the existing camera that you could - and would - use on the new camera? Would they fit the Canon but not work on the Sony? (that might make the extra £230 difference quite a bit less if having to buy new accessories on the Sony?)

It was this kind of thing that decided me on getting a Pentax D-SLR rather than a different brand as I could use the lenses from my Pentax MV, as both used the K-Mount.
 
I've used various generations of Fuji fine pix bridge cameras for years.... Onwards from the 5600

Most have had a pretty hard life taking longer exposure underground pictures exploring old mine workings etc....
I've even had to rinse them off under the tap on occasion when, they've ended caked in mud...
Still taking good pictures now even after lots of abuse

I will keep my existing dslr canon with its standard lens and 100 to 300mm zoom. They will not fit the canon bridge camera or any other.
Either bridge camera has a far greater lens variation anyway !
 
I've got the Sony you refer to had it around 18 mths very pleased with it small enough to fit in Jacket pocket battery life really good gps a bonus no more looking at pics trying to remember where it was taken. Have a look around I've seen better prices than your link

The Lens thing was just an example of possible accessories that might be interchangable. Could just as well have said data cables with proprietary connections, charging bricks, etc, etc.
 
Thanks but they both come as a fully self contained unit with charging off USB.
Photos on standard memory card
Probably hotshoe for extra flash gun.
Wifi and bluetooth remote control with phone
...as you know the techie world has progressed.
 
I’ve got a few cameras, my most used is a full frame Nikon, but for fun, I have a Nikon P900 bridge camera. It’s not small but quite light. The zoom lens is incredible and as long as you don’t want to take low light images, it produces some pretty good results.
This little chap was a good 75 metres away, and the image was heavily cropped.

Both the weight (lack of) and the incredible zoom means my canon slr amd its 100 to 300mm 2nd lens can be relegated. The zooming together with the extra pixels mean you can do as you have done and still have a quality image after cropping !
Just a matter of when given other priorities due to covid travel !
 
I have a Sony HX200V and have used it for five years or so and it has been very useful. The 400 will probably be a step up but a 200 could be a lot cheaper.

This from the little Sony at full optical zoom, not using the digital extension.

It seems my fully functional canon dslr is only worth about £25 from london camera exchange.
Park cameras quoted ..not interested.
I will check mpb but I anticipate similar.
The lens may be worth more but not an acceptable value.
As for buying..I prefer new !
Just checked mpb...nothing of interest to buy.

I was recently with someone who uses a Nikon P900 and was impressed with the features it had. Bit of a lump with that huge lens but the pictures from it were superb. Something like 83x optical zoom and gps, wifi etc.

The camera was collected grom Argos after sutable confirmation.
Demms good and has a rapid shot feature. I have set the image size to 10mp

Try a few harvest moon shots if you have clear skies. They usually turn out well with the 200 I have.

Dont forget to let me know if the lag in writing to memory is still present please. Most annoying when on the HDR (program +) mode.
