My Cello TV is very quiet as it is at the other end of the van from the front seat. Has anyone added a speaker? What speaker and how did you do it?

My Sony TV at home (as is inevitable with a lot of flatscreen TVs) doesn't have great sound, so I bought a soundbar that connects via usb. Makes a world of difference. Mine was about £80 but prices can be seriously eye-watering. If you have an old set of PC speakers lying around, they would do the job too, given the right connector.

The 12v soundbars I have found so far seem a bit of a rip off to me.
Avtex do one that consists of 2x 10w speakers for almost £150 Avtex Soundbar
That may seem a bargain when you look at this one with 2x 3w speakers though Caratec Soundbar
When we go to France I may look at putting my Sonos Soundbase in the van and plugging that into an investor. We very rarely watch tv though so not sure it’s worth the trouble of moving stuff. Think I May still have a computer 5.1 sourround sound system upstairs so that could be an option. At the cost of rechargeable speakers now though that could be the way to go.

Most folks probably have a perfectly serviceable stereo system in the cab though so a couple of 3.5mm jack plugs and a length of cable is probably the better option.

We must have someone on site who knows about car stereos to advise surely? :)

I have one of these;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N11S...t=&hvlocphy=1006506&hvtargid=pla-475305315289

Surprisingly good sound, with the added bonus that they can be plugged into a TV with the supplied lead, Bluetoothed to a MP3 or your phone to play music, or used as a hands free kit.

Looks like a great solution. I have a similar JBL one that I use for music from my iPad or phone, plus I've used it to increase/improve the sound when playing films on my laptop. I hadn't really thought the power aspect of the op's question through properly but I know many soundbars and speakers are powered through a usb connection (if the TV has one), so don't even need batteries or recharging. Google usb powered speakers.

Nabs' idea of utilising the cab stereo could work well if someone knows how to do it. I've got wired speakers in the rear of the van from the radio but my old cab kit doesn't have an auxiliary connection point of any kind for other devices.

I have sent an email asking if this has 3.5mm audio in connection or how else it connects to a tv. Cheap Soundbar

I recently changed the stereo in our van Jennie as the old one didn’t have RDS so constantly losing station when moving, got a new Sony that will connect two phones at same time and let’s me play music/audiobooks from my iPhone using Bluetooth or a cable, also has usb connection. Wasn’t a lot of money but I did go for another Sony so more than the £45 offerings on but can double check if you want to know model, price, supplier. I could do it with audio in and long cable I think but not sure how long a cable you can use for this so maybe not.

Will update when I hear back from TV-Village

I'd be interested in the details Nabs. I've been toying with the idea of changing the van stereo too... another item for the ever-growing wishlist! ;)

A Bluesound Pulse flex is small, has bluetooth and an optical input for TV connection, it does not buffer the Audio (which means no Lip Sync issues) and has a rechargeable battery option, Its designed to mount either vertically or horizontally and is available in either Black or White but most importantl, (to me at least) its built and designed by a proper Hi-Fi company (NAD) so sounds really good for its size. lastly for those who want music it will read from a USB hard drive or stick it will also connect to Wi-Fi to play from Spotify etc.

I know its not cheap but it will do the job and do it well.

If you buy the right cable type of a reasonable quality you should be of for 10 - 15 metres, just ensure its kept away from other cables as much as you can. also make sure you have a suitable Aux in on the stereo and a line out on the TV (not the Headphone socket)

Not checked on tv itself as its in the van and I m home but specs online say headphone socket out

The one I went for Jennie was a single DIN unit as that was what the slot size was, it came with the right cable adapter for my van as well so was a pull out the old and connect the new and done in ten minutes (took 8 minutes to get old one out :) )
It was from Halfords online on 1st July this year for a total cost of £69. This is the model number
Sony DSX-A410BT Car Stereo

Thanks Nabs... you make it sound very easy :) It doesn't look as thought the model you bought includes a CD player, which I'd like to keep, so some consumer research required. I'll start by investigating what my current one is!

Apologies to Biggarmac for temporarily hijacking your thread. Hope you find a good solution for your TV :)

Ah sorry it doesn't include a cd player, I went for playing from my phone/ipad etc and USB stick rather than CD. I didn't want to spend much either or I could have got the lot :)

FWIW, we have stereo external speakers that can be recharged via a standard USB socket. (Link is to Amazon UK). We use a combination 12v and USB charging adapter to power our Cello TV, computer, and to recharge phones etc.

Thanks for all the replies. I need to go and check to see if my TV has Bluetooth. I already have the Sony Bluetooth 12v speaker; so linking that in will probably be the solution. Meg

I know this is an old thread, for new readers with same question Amazon, Anker sound core Bluetooth speaker, excellent, over six thousand revues, charges from USB twenty hours use thirty quid.

I connect a small Bluetooth speaker to my cello, because the speaker is not clear enough, being at the back of the set.
The Bluetooth speaker is a re-chargeable unit that I hardwire to the TV and produces clear sound and can be turned right down because the speaker is facing forward.

I use headphones as I normally only watch the TV in the van if I am on my own. It also means that I do not disturb anyone else with my noise.

I tried the headphones, but I don't like the idea that they may block out sound from outside the van. I like to know what is happening around my van in the evenings.
