When planning your routes, do you normally choose the slower more scenic roads, or motorways, autoroutes etc.?

9 our if 10 are the scenic routes some of our best wilding spots have been found off the beaten track.
And if I have to use a major route wherever possible it will be the A1 secondly the M1 and only if absolutely unavoidable will I use the M6 but I do like the M25 choose your times carefully I have never been stuck on it yet .

Due to where i live virtually every journey starts off with the M6 or the M65.

Then rest of the journey depends on where we are going and more importantly the time of day.

Depends what distance we need to cover. If it’s on route out or back on big trip, motorways preferably if free.
If it’s only a 100k day approx major ish minor roads to make the most of what’s about. ?

I am starting to think that the motorways are becoming too much of a lottery, you never know when they are going to close a lane or two because of some incident.
So if there is a sensible alternative I seriously consider it but long journeys you can't really get away from trunk routes if you are on a time limit.

We normally use Yorkshireman approved roads... EG, Free ones.
But its wise to have a regular run on motorways, to give the engine a good blow through

Being a long way from many places our journeys South inevitably are by motorway. If heading North we usually find more scenic roads.

scenic routes everytime.......so much more interesting things to see.............b eats the stresses of heavy vehicles, tankers artic o the motorways................yes, just nice and easy does it......

We always take the scenic route much more to see

You know you’re in Heaven when you have too use a passing place to let the once a day car coming the other way get past then give a nice wave. Hate motorways that Jeff and his mate laird always blocking the middle lane.?

We passed a campervan parked up in a passing place today no one was inside it!

I very rarely drive long distances nonstop. Why would I need to? There are lots of options and as I am retired, I am not in a hurry to get anywhere (that is why I have kept out of the HGV and Artic thread on WC, waggon drivers don't bother me when 2 abreast).

If we decided to travel to Spain, it would probably take at least a month to get there.
