Cruising Speed?

On motorways and dual carriageways we just tuck in behind our preferred HGV. The vack end of somewagons are just boring so we let everyone else have those.

We do a lot of Motorway driving in the M/H & set the cruise control at 60mph as we are then we slowly overtaking trucks as they are speed limited to 56/58mph so makes the driving more relaxed to overtake them & they dont tailgate us at whilst we cruise @ 60mph ,,,,,

Motorways I tend to stick it at 70 indicated, a true 66 according to satnag and it doesn’t affect mpg very much.

other less major roads when we are watching scenery I tend to be around 45/50

Around the single-track roads of Scotland it seems happy to trundle along in 4th at anything above 20, less hassle driving like that, I always pull over so I'm not hindering anyone and you see a lot more wild life if you don't scare em off.

Hgv trucks ARE MEANT NOT TO EXCEED 56 mph but there are a lot out there a tad naughty shall we say esp some from further afield
that's all I'm saying on this one
I thought the HGV limit on dual carriageways and motorways was now 60 mph .................. 🤔🤔

Yes but a magnet on the g box limiter bypasses it, here they pass me at well over 60.

I get 34 plus on the dash but brim to brim is nearer 29 ish, it's never exact as different pumps will shut off at slightly different times, you can fill til you actually see fuel but then it spills out on the first corner.

I fill until the first click of the pump, as recommended by the Owners Manual. It's far more accurate than the trip computer propaganda, and even if there is a slight difference between pumps, we're not doing a certified lab test, so 0.01+/- mpg is not critical ...

hi guys been retired now near 20 years so rules have changed but always coming from scotch near Lancaster where the irish would join the m6 they would fly past us doing 56mph best for fuel consumption having a governor fitted BUT the speed limit for HGV'S was 60mph & they didn't.
so for best economy 56MPH but we do about 64mph on motorways then there is only cars that pass you other roads tour stick to the limit . cheyenne

The 56mph is a hell of a myth, economy comes from how a vehicle is driven and it's shape, a Luton van may run at a totally different economical speed to a Fiesta car.

It was part of the European triumvirate of speed standards for years, Kev. Manufacturers were required to state fuel consumption at a constant 90kmh, at 120kmh,, and, IIRC, an urban cycle of 50kmh. The measurements have been changed over the years and now take into account hybrids and electric vehicles and the odd diesel emissions scam (VW were very wrong in their actions...)

If you push it then not a drop of fuel will be wasted. 😂
One mager thing is dont labour an engine, let it run up easy to speed and back of throttle, esp when decending hills etc.
