Do you enjoy Rallies?

Never and no intentions of. We wild camp and want to be away from it all and enjoy the countryside. Each to their own.

The main reason we changed from caravan to motorhome was for wild camping. Much nicer than noisy sites, and a lot cheaper. Saved around £1000 during one month in Europe.

Obviously like 'wild camping' and being away from it all, (and not paying very much!).

We enjoy meets especially the smaller ones. A perfect meet would be a dozen vans at the most, close to a pub with a selection of real ales (or Doom Bar as a minimum), a log fire and Splitty playing the guitar. Location would be somewhere of interest for example at the seaside, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, or walking distance to an interesting town/city. Oh and preference for no generators or amplified music.

As always thankyou to the organisers of the meets/gatherings your hardwork is much appreciated, also thankyou to all the other wild campers for their company.

We have nether done one, so cannot really judge,we met a few members at the NEC show recently and thoroughly enjoyed there company, we have booked for the New Year's Eve party so will be able to judge better after attending that one. I mostly work weekends in the summer months and with working in a seaside resort, it can prove to be expensive taking time off at weekend to go to a meet, so we are more likely to attend meets if they are held midweek. I have always worked on New Year's Eve, so this will be the first one I have taken off in 36 years of driving a taxi, going to miss the takings, that's for sure. But it will be a pleasure to one of the drunks for a change.

Yes .we do 5 /6 a year with diffrent groups .
But we love the smaller festivals.

.

Are the small ones listed separately?
How big is big? And snall, small?

We’ve never attended a meet but I think if we did the first one might be a smaller one to get to know a few people and then later on a bigger size meet
Would love to meet up with you, introducing you to fellow remembers, you would feel more than welcome making you look forward to further meets..... what area do you cover

i do enjoy a meet, bit restless so i never stay long , we've met some great people at them , but don't get to many because of money and family

We haven’t been to meets Lorraine because of babysitting duties and hospital appointments then one of us is poorly but you never know in the future if you mean the areas in the van we head up into Scotland I know we would be made more than welcome and it would lovely to put faces to the names one day!

I've never been to a meet, rally or gathering. I think I would like to sometimes. What holds me back is the prospect of meeting up with people who publicly advocate extreme punishment for petty criminals, sending all foreigners back to wherever they came from etc etc. I would find it very hard to sit around a camp fire or in a pub listening to this kind of thing.

Roger, I can see where you're coming from but pretty much everyone I've ever met at our gatherings has been absolutely lovely and many have become good friends. With such a cross-section of people, it's obvious we're all going to have different views on things - some people you'll like immensely, others you perhaps won't warm to - but in my experience, the strong debate is left behind in the forum, not round the campfire. We're a lovely bunch really... come out and see for yourself :)

mostly we hang around the pyre exchanging noose with each other even if its lashing it down, drinking our stocks of beer trying not to get too stoned.

Roger, it would be good for you to educate the very people who you disagree with, I'm a member of a local social and political group and although I do not have a preferred political party, I do like debating with other people's opinions, whether they be centre. left or right leaning, it's good to debate, we are all different. I've never been to a meet as yet, but did meet a couple of members at the NEC show and I couldn't believe how welcome they made us feel and might wife isn't the social type but even she joined in the conversations. It will be a first for me at the New Years gathering, but I would presume it's more of a social gathering rather than putting the world to rights and any talk I would have thought would have been about our mutual hobby.. Hope to see you at one in the future.

Right with you there. I read several motorhome forums and often think the only thing I have in common with the majority of members is a motorhome. I may be wrong of course, those with the most repellent views are often the most vociferous. But I'm choosy who I spend my time with.
Korky.

I wouldn't worry about that Roger, I have been to a lot this year all over the country and Scotland. I have not noticed anything like that going on at any I have been to. You can just wander from small group or individual to another though so if you don't gel with someone there are plenty others. Everyone is there to enjoy themselves and you can either join in or do your own thing or any combination of the two.

Its easy to get carried away on a forum at times and say things you wouldn't dream of saying in public, this can be both a good and bad thing. Dont let it stop you getting to some and judging for yourselves, you may end up loving the experience :)

We enjoy the meets but unfortunately haven't been able to get to many, I have never heard any strong opinions discussed around the campfire and I wouldn't like to hear it myself, if I wanted to hear strong opinions I would mention Swifts, awnings, A frames or ground sheets to Cheerful Charlie ?

Small meets for us (eg MagBrin's HG's)
Although we did enjoy both Hereford and Henley-in-Arden

Not for me, I guess we’re a bit less gregarious than others and prefer to be isolated, away from as much as we can. I have been called a miserable sod on many an occasion and I intend to live up to it ?
