Do you take Statins for Cholesterol?

Dave takes simvastatin, with no side effects at all. Had it prescribed as maternal family history of hypercholesterol, grandma and uncle both died under 50yrs.
He was on blood pressure pills but managed to control that with diet, exercise and taking it at home ( white coat syndrome!) one or all helped! Take a weeks BP annually and give it to GP to keep them happy.
The issue with prostate cancer is that, whilst many cases are treated with watch and wait & the individual dies with it, not of it (and some never know), there are types of prostate cancer which does need urgent treatment to control it. Same with breast cancer, different types need different treatment. With all the targeted therapies now, effective treatment is available for far more cancers. Raising awareness is important , surely?

A very old friend of mine had stage 4 prostate cancer, he had the robotic op, he's still with us, has a catheter fitted, he now has hip and heart issues too, but he still gets out and walks the dog twice a day.

Simvastatin caused problems for lots of people, including me. I managed to change to Atorvastatin and have had no problems since.

There were a number of problems with side effects in the early versions (but even then, there was a heavily positive number of people not dying because of congestion-related heart attacks compared to no statin at all) but the new ones including Atorvastatin are pretty good indeed.

Science keeps things moving forward and getting better. Don't think because something once bad happened then it hasn't improved since (otherwise our motorhomes would be carts pulled by horses! - cars and vans used to be lethal!)

I am unable to take statins due to bad side effects. I had a very high C level last year which my DR said was almost off the scale. I made no changes to diet, which was fairly good anyway but started taking Sea Buckthorne oil capsules. My C. level is now 5.1. I'm not saying this is a miracle cure but I cannot account for the huge drop as nothing has changes except that I stared taking this supplement. I wouldn't suggest anyone stops taking statins of they are already on them by it may be worth giving Sea Buckthorne a try. I take two a day of these.

Well, I've spent ten minutes trying to order that without them knowing my email address, not possible, it invites you to buy as a guest, but needs email to continue so I won't be buying from them, shame as they offer PayPal as payment option.

Always use a sudo second email, and run all email through thunderbird. (y)

Are these the same?

I'd say same thing but different strength.

After my heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery early last year I am taking Atorvastatin and not experiencing any related difficulties with them. My cholesterol level has dropped from 5.0 to 2.8 since starting them.

My quack has been trying for years & gets very annoyed when I refuse. Another conspiracy theory proven right. I only take proven meds for a proven reason or illness.
Yeah my quack tried putting me on them last week and wasn't happy when I said no.To be fair he put me on them several years ago but I when to see one of the other doctors in our practice and he took me off them saying you don't need them.

I doubt it although they do both have the 1000 mg Sea Buckthorne and you get 200 instead of 60 and the dosage is 5 per day.
They are certainly cheaper so you could take a chance because they are cheap. They are manufactured in Russia and we have absolutely no idea of purity or even if they contain what they claim and the capsule is made with bovine sourced Gell . The Natures best product is manufactured in the UK and the capsule is vegan friendly and although it's £4 dearer you only get 60 and but you take two a day so that's a months supply. If you take 5 a day of the Russian ones that's 40 days worth. On balance I would prefer a slightly dearer product from a known reputable UK company as opposed to a a slightly cheaper product with God know what in it.

Siberian Green.com have a decent looking website but some very iffy claims, for example,

FDA

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulates both finished dietary supplement products and dietary ingredients. The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices. Siberian Green facilities are not only registered with FDA, but as the official importer we require all our suppliers to be registered with FDA, so we source exclusively from FDA registered facilities. All our FDA registered facilities are subject to an inspection at any time to ensure that we meet all the current requirements and regulations.

I really cannot see a Russian company being registered with the FDA let alone premises inspected by FDA officials. Also, read the product description on Amazon, one one hand they say, " responsibly sourced wild harvested not treated sea buckthorn berries from Siberia" and on the other, "Our Siberian sea buckthorn oil is a nutritional bombshell" so is it from Siberia or not.

I may of course be completely wrong and they may be a first class product from a first class company but I do know the supplement industry is very big business and there are lots of spurious claims made. I am happy with my supplier

If you're asking me then no I went with Holland and Barrett, we have a branch locally but it's pain to walk to.

I had no problems with the Simvastatin but at an annual review my Dr. moved me onto Atorvastatin. I mentioned to my mate and he said it was because the Simvastatin were far too expensive for the NHS. Not had any problems with the Atorvastatin.

Not sure if I should take the Sea Buckthorne and the Atorvastatin at the same time or to stop it and just take the Sea Buckthorne.

this doesn't really help much either
