Feb 27 th update Must be my birthdayUPDATE. TODAY. Looks like our trip abroad is being delayed dvla!

No my car and truck licences are with the dvla all good they say but it's over two weeks they've had them they say I should have them this coming week
apparently in france you must carry your picture licence or they will impound the veh and detain the driver

Isn,t your old licence good to use while your waiting on dvla
Not necessarily for foreign travel: This is from DVLA Inf 188/6 Information Leaflet:

I am going abroad and I would like to drive while
I am there. Am I covered for this?
Because the Section 88 provision is in UK
legislation, it may not be accepted in other
countries. We advise you to check with the
relevant licensing authority before you travel.

Would it have been different if they had retained their regional offices instead of dumping it all to Swansea?

That is a shocking lack of training/awareness/competence, Gordon.

It took me 5-10 minutes of Internet search results [most spent weeding out the replies from non official sources], and then clicking on a couple of links to reach the Information Booklet. To be fair, the Booklet is a bit of a 'hedge your bets', with repeated references to 'if unsure, check with your medical professional', which is quite reasonable, because the Booklet can only give general guidance rather than an assessment of a specific case/application

Steve

If you have not got a up to date licence you can only drive in the UK under Section 88 but not abroad, It's cost me a few bob in Italy and France when I was trucking out there, spoke to DVLA there answer was get Italian or French to phone DVLA and my answer to that they don't speak welsh

Yes 🤔

It should be like Florida, you go in and pay your money, they take your photo and give you a licence (or in their case a "license" ;)).

Del

Gordon, if Fi has C class on her license, can Fi not drive until yo stuff arrives?

You would need to do any reversing though, you know what women are like at reversing!!

Body armour on

having to cancel my ferry bookings after getting in touch with the dvla who are renewing all my licences ,all has been processed bar my medical papers and eye test which they were looking at but the guy on the phone says it may be a few weeks to return then
I sent them recorded delivery and offered to pay for return recorded but fell on deaf ears just reiterated can't say exactly when aghhhhhhhhhh
Section 88 of The Road Traffic Act 1988 may allow you to continue driving even though you do not hold a current driving licence. In practice, this will be when you have applied to the DVLA to renew your licence, but the licence expires (runs out) whilst they are processing the application.

Terry, you should know by now that women cannot reverse because they never need to do so; they are always right ... Whereas we men are so invariably wrong that reversing becomes second nature ... Same with women having no sense of humour; it's so that they marry us instead of laughing at us ... :) Think I've dug us both out of bother, but, being a man, I could well be wrong ...
