France 2023 tour.

By the way, water wheels are at different locations on same stretch of water, I wonder if each one is supplying some form of hydro power, we should all have one during this energy crisis!!

We also did the beach tours and the war memorials several years ago. Found them very moving, hard to understand
how that many soldiers have been killed. Also the age of the soldiers. R.I.P.
I seem to recall that Omaha Beach had a particularly high casualty rate due to the failure of the amphibious tanks to get ashore (sea conditions and tidal flow) combined with lack of bomb craters due to the relevant bombing run having been too far inland, both resulting in lack of shelter for infantry.

No Rog, 25€ for us both to view a tatty tea towel is not on, I googled for look 😂

Now just arrived & Falaise, I got a good vibe about this Medieval town.

If you have any problems, Terry, ask for Cliff. He'll help you ... :ROFLMAO:

Fair trek today after leaving Falaise, you can park for the night below the castle ramparts, castle is the birth place of William the conquerer. Now at MIL village near Chauvigny, long drive, pics tomorrow, I will leave you with something to munch on, though 😋

Nice restaurant on the square that do a tasty crepe, washed down with a bottle of Normandy Doux Cider next to fortress. Great market on a Saturday. 👍

Some images from Falaise, birth place of Wully the conquerer, was originally a fortified town, where some areas still remain. Much of the town suffered badly by allied bombings, as the town had a rail hub which had to be destroyed prior to D-Day landings, so the Nazi’s could not send reinforcements, many civilians were killed during these raids. There’s a museum there dedicated to D-Day. As I mentioned, although we did not stop the night, chatting to other MH’s who were staying the night below the fortress walls. IMO, town is well worth a visit. Oh, the model within glass case, this shows what was left of the town the day the allies arrived and liberated the town.

Headed to Chauvigny for a dander about with pooch laid up at the veterinary clinic at Pluemartin. If any members are around this area and unfortunate to require a vet for their fur ball. The vets there were brilliant.
Anyhooo, Marchie, some pics to spur your memories 🍷

Happy memories, Terry! Chauvigny is about 90 miles from our hovel, so we had a leisurely pootle to the Camping Municipal and an age setting up the then Trailer Tent ... :D On the second day visiting the Castle Ramparts, one of the birds escaped and entertained the pedestrians by waiting for the Keeper to run down the path and then taking off for a 30m flight to where the Keeper had just come from [repeat as necessary ...] (y)

Allegedly the birth of Wiliam The Conqueror.
Get some Calvados down yer.

They were celebrating it when we were there.
But that could just have been an excuse for a P' up.
Interesting stopover.
