Fuel in France

We land in Dunkirk 29 April. The plan was to tour around Germany but given the uncertainties we will probably stick to Northern France. I think there is enough there for us for 4 weeks. It's also an opportunity to try slowing down a bit, staying in places for more than one night.

This is a useful thread - thank you to all contributions. Good to see that it is staying on-topic - unlike similar threads on WC!

Today all total fuel stations dropped to 1.91 euro a litre
£1.66 per litre, Jeff; somewhat cheaper than our Local Shell station at £1.958 pl, Asda at £1.917pl and Sainsburys at £1.919 pl ... Quel surpris ...

Garage in Albir a week ago was 177 just passed today it is at 159 euro,
So definitely heading in the right direction
If that's L'Albir, that was last seen in Spain! There doesn't seem to be anywhere in France with that name

Spain.
Yes I know it should be a separate thread.
Fuel varies between €1.61 and €1.89
I’m pretty sure Rob and I paid €1.20 about this time last year.
I’ve found one north of Pamplona, close to the French border, at the lower price.
I’m in no great hurry, I’ll see what Sarriguren has to offer, before moving on.

Latest here in Provence is €2.25 to €2.49. There appears to be no logic to differences, sometimes cheaper on the motorway. 🤔

I was wondering, do you use Fuel flash.eu it's a website that gives you the prices of fuel in Europe.
We use it all the time and it tells you where the nearest fuel is. It saved us about 25 cents a litre today.

Meanwhile, on Fuerteventura today petrol at €1.34. Always amazes me how I can be paying much less for fuel on a volcanic island in the Atlantic than I do anywhere else in Europe. Especially the UK.

I believe the islands are tax free, or use to be?

Total seem to be cheaper than the supermarkets again, according to Fuel Flash. I filled up at the Total in Toul (near Nancy) this morning at €2.09 per litre.
A bizarre system though, the pumps weren't pay at pump, you had to get to the punp, then go into the shop and get the card pre-authorised for an amount you specify. This, combined with being the cheapest in the arwa, resulted in a slow queue!

They do this in America. Pay up front, in case the car does a runner after fuelling up.

Don't understand why ALL our Pumps in the UK are like that 😕
Agreed, I imagine though, as existing older pumps are replaced with card payment pumps, like at Costco and Applecross community fuel pump, pay at kiosk will disappear.

Not everyone will have credit card though, not sure the work around for anyone without a card?

Not sure that kiosks will entirely disappear. Since the filling station at my local Morrisons transferred to MFG, they've actually disabled pay-at-pump!
