Garage Damp

I went to see a motorhome today and on the whole ok a few things needed sorting. Inside garage looked dry. So looked underneath and rear on driver side and water dripping from the corner.

Seems slightly up the back as well but not sure where coming in by looking. Now I know will need an engineer to check how bad it is.

Has anyone had similar issue on a Hymer and how much did it cost to get fixed? If had C1 could easily sack of the van and move on but meets all criteria apart from that.

Hard to say about costs from your description, but I would be poking something sharp into the areas that appear wet to see the extent of any rot in the floor areas. Not unknown for the Hymer garage door seals to leak, happened to us and if the garage is heated from the blown air system then they suffer from condensation in the garage.

Thanks for reply. I think might be coming down back and soaking into floor. Maybe a low offer on it saying 3k for damp repair if they accept and cheaper then happy days. Through motorhome depot so probably won’t accept but needs lots of work done.

Yeah as say what we want is mega rare. 6 berth, cab aircon, 6 proper seatbelts under 3.5 tonne and under 30k. Not silly miles.

If it's the transit based 2008 Hymer, don't forget to factor in some security measures, Ford based mh's are very prone to being stolen.

Accept/pass? Which one. In mean time it can rot then if they want.

Think you already know the answer. But think your trying to convince yourself how do you know 3k will cover the cost? Then it's getting someone to fix it. And reading posts it seems to be months to get someone to do it. Good luck in whatever you do

Thank you. See what they come back with probably a bugger off. Will do some temp adjustments to last till can get it done properly.

I got some leaks soon after building mine which lead to a rotten floor very quick, cut it out and found the leaking part, then after sealing I cut new floor and side panels but covered them in grp before refitting them, never charged myself a penny. 😂

Yeah, I think the GRP on top might be a shout. The Hymer has a metal-type stuff on top. As I say internally can't see any dampness or water at all just on the bottom of the wood. I suspect running down the outside side and somewhere in that corner it's not sealed and soaking into the wood.

I was convinced that blown air into your nether regions was the answer to having a dry happy bum!
I also had problems with Murky's wet room. As was the fashion when it was built coaches had steel floors. So when I built the wet room it was steel lined too. Using corrosion resistant Zintec steel sheet. Over this was marine ply, and then cushion flooring. This even went up the sides to seal it. On the outside of the steel was 25mm of PU insulation. After about a year the cushioning got better, until you could see bulges. Yes water had got between.
After stripping the wet room only the steel was fine. The Marine ply was horrible. After this it was replaced with buffalo type resin board. All the edges and screws sealed with flexible epoxy. Lots of work, but it's been good for a very long time now.
Betty's garage is panelled with Buffalo board to, but no steel underneath as I think it's over kill. It won't be used as a wet room, but wet marquees and bicycles with be put it. I the hope of the area not turning smelly I have the option of diverting hot air into that area. Lets hope I don't regret it.

Was the water rain/condensation or could it have come from a leak in the water system or even a crack in the shower tray and have dried out inside but not underneath?

That's one option, could also be the result of persistent water spray if there are no rear mudflaps or damage to the underside from a rear tyre blow out that hasn't been fixed.

Yeah the motorhome has hardly moved in past couple of years so it's not spray it's just when it's tracking down the back panel.

i had a leak back corner of my hymer took a few examinations to find it was on the feed pipe to the solenoid valve on the wc flush but running down the pipe under the carpets & dripping from the opposite corner
