Has the bubble finally burst on our hobby ?

Perhaps it will force manufacturer's to improve quality and offer a good after sales service .I don't think the bubble has burst just leaking a bit .

I wonder how the past 12 months compares with other years in the past decade?

They double capacity in 2017 and now are dropping 25% of the expansion that is still 175% of their 2016 capacity. It sounds like they overestimated the sudden surge in demand for new motorhomes. A lot of the 2016-2017 purchase bubble was caused by pension release, that wave of sales has now past. People were ordering motorhomes early as they were being told of order books full for years.

I have no doubt that Brexit and diesel engine uncertainty are affecting sales, people are not going to invest £50,000 - £150,000 of their hard earned money without a belief that diesel motorhome resale prices are not going to be damaged. There could be a flood of used vehicles coming on the market at low prices from motorhomers desperate to sell their vehicles that they can no longer afford to use to holiday in Europe.

Still a 3-4 Month wait for a new van at Wildax in Elland but of course they only do van conversions.

I think Brexit is just an excuse for over estimation of the future market which has caused reality to dawn with the need to pull the neck back in a little. Unfortunately the people working at the factory will be the ones that suffer for what appears to be bad management decisions.

Diesel engines are going out soon and the gov is talking bringing it down to 2032.
Trucks running on electric in america can cover 500 miles on a charge and produce 2000 bhp, so im sure shortly campers will hit the market with all electric or petrol/electric drive units.
I can see why folk are holding back and nervs, just look at diesel car sales plus price of electronic injectors ,vw 1600d units are £1000 each.

Can you see our power stations coping with that ,it strudels with kettles at the end of coronation st ,how many electric cars will be plugging in after the daily commute. ?

We noticed there were many more motorhomes around Scotland and the islands last summer. Some of the locals in various places commented and many were not happy about it - not just the numbers but also the behaviour of some of them. Things like dumping their black water down street drains and overnighting on the prom were mentioned. It's people like that who get the rest of us a bad name. There were places where we felt less than welcome for the first time ever. Not nice................. and not fair!

I really hate to think how you will be able to charge the batteries required for a moho on a journey. A tiny Nissan Leaf takes 3 hours at 70 amps - think what it would take to fully charge a moho and as for the “wonder” truck you will need a power station just for it!!

I have just thought of a nice scam if MH become electric powered , I can knock up a lead to connect into the kerbside charger to charge our leisure batteries during winter  and make a nice profit on the black market selling them . That's my way to making my first million (y) . ( Only kidding folks )

So it sounds like Wildax are still very busy

Yes they look very busy, having visited the factory twice now every inch of space outside is taken up with vans waiting to be converted or completed orders. Plus they just added another model to the range based on the Ford.

My mate has a electric car and never used the grid to charge, solar on house roof wired to a car charger in his garage,we have fields of solar and turbines here now so less use of old type p/stations,its all going lecy whether you like it or not.

Where does that leave me?
I don't have a drive or a garage and have to park in the street. Also double yellow lines on the road outside my house.

With a pedal cycle :)

Seriously though you are like an awful lot of people in towns in the North, the old stone workers cottages have no off-road parking capability. There is a long way to go before the new tech can work for a lot of folks.

I have the same when folk say about public transport, nearest bus stop is half a mile away and a bus every two hours if they run. May not sound far but not many would do it in winter, in fact I bet I don’t see half a dozen folks a year at the bus stop.

Petrol and duesel will see me out I reckon

I quite agree. this is the problem all over Europe. We have noticed how many motorhomes are touring, even in the off season. Our hobby seems to be a victim of it's own success.
The other factor, that bothers me, is how many Low Emission zones are appearing, or are planned. It's starting to become a nightmare.
Belgium, in particular, have decided to let local area's implement Low Emission zones, so you will soon need several windscreen stickers, to visit.
In the UK, I read that there are to be a few area's, that will introduce these zones, in the near future, so it's going to affect most of us, soon.
What frightens me, is that London imposed such things, a number of years ago, and older vehicles weren't able to be used, in the capital, without paying an high price, for the privilage. Could it happen elswhere, in the UK?

Glasgow has an ULEZ planned, £10million given to update buses when they realised the city centre would be inaccessible to most. Over 40 other areas in Scotland are earmarked.
