Hot EHU plug

Good call there. These plugs are not waterproof by any means and the damp will get in. I think I would have been inclined to chop maybe 6" off and get a clean set of wires, but if the corrosion crept up several feet, best to bin and start fresh (y)
I'm not so sure. Even after chopping off several feet it might be worth keeping. I don't use hookup very often, but when I do there's usually far too much cable.
 
An alternative to the standard plain copper wired cables is to seek out marine grade tinned copper wired cables. Having seen the state of wiring on a sea going sailing boat after 30 years. I wired my previous self build 15 years ago with such cabling and had no memorable trouble with connections. It only went to a new owner a few weeks ago.

ps... I think the price differential is greater these days
