How do YOU use your bus pass?

That book reminded me...I have a similar book which was my mums. Now I have a bus pass, I could try it out.

There is no way im standing at a bus stop to have kids fly past in cars firing marbles from a catapult at me, or for hrs in the lashing rain, anyway buses dont go to places i want, most just go to belfast city hall stop, ok for those that work in the city.

I got that one from a charity shop somewhere. It's an interesting read but the bus details are probably out of date now. Unless it's been updated.

Strangely, the morning after I put my comment on about using the bus pass when my car goes in to the garage, my car wouldn't start, flat battery. RAC came and got it going and I went to the garage. Didn't have a suitable battery in stock so I left car and got a bus back home. My neighbour ran me back in the afternoon when it was ready 'cos no bus for a couple of hours.
Good service from RAC, my garage and my bus pass. And the neighbour of course.

As a long distance GB hiker - I have done all the National Trails and many others. The Bus pass is very useful and used. I have Citroen Berlingo micro camper and stealth camp not far from a bus stop, or at least know where one is. I then catch a bus in the morning and travel away so I have something like fifteen or so miles to walk back. I sometimes use the train similarly. It is easier to travel away and walk back than the other way round and have the anxiety about getting to a bus stop in time for a return trip. One day on the South West Coast Path my system didn't work so I got a Taxi back to my vehicle. I must have looked my age and tired as he didn't charge me what was on the meter.; pleased for the fare I guess. I have used taxis elsewhere to fit in with poor weather and pub meal times.
Longer term members probably remember Rubbertramp (Mark Jones) who was doing a similar thing. Working round the coast of the U.K. by parking his van up, cycling however far he wanted that day, then catching bus back to his van before moving up.

Not sure if he finished this or not, haven’t seen him for a year or so.

I've obviously had one for ages and find it useful.
The longest trip I've done is Oxford to Buxton in one day, me and a couple of friends did it as a bit of a laugh after discussing it in the pub one night.
We started at 9am and got to Buxton about 6pm. with slightly numb bums and ready for a pint.
I know it's a bit of an odd thing to do but we had a good laugh.

I did the Buxton market place to Victoria(?) coach station in London a few times in the 70’s but that was on express coaches rather than normal bus service. You could feel the temperature dropping rapidly in Winter coming from Derby

The GoldBus from Aberdeen to Edinburgh when it ran was always full of free bus pass holders (read OAP’s) because for just the 50p booking fee and free travel you could sit on a nice warm bus for a few hours getting both fed and watered for free. Hang around in Edinburgh for a bit or even just stay on the bus and have an identical return journey. I hasten to add I never did this but my sister was a frequent traveller!

Use my Derby Gold Card bus pass a lot. You can't use it before 9.30 in the morning, which I understand as they presumably don't need the busy commuter services clogging up by old dossers. But after a night on the ales in Wirksworth last week, I was surprised that I couldn't use it on the last bus home after 11 pm. My mate remarked that at our age they expect us to be tucked up in bed by 9 with a hot cocoa.

Thanks for that, we're laughing our heads off. 🤣🤣🤣
