One telling the correct answer is good. Two is almost as good.

Answering your question but not commenting on a possibly very dangerous or even lethal defect would be both unhelpful and irresponsible. And certainly not good.

I try to look for the good in folk, and wonder whether some people ask a question, move away, and simply dont know how to navigate back to read the answer?

I've just checked my first post Kev, and it's exactly as you say, a simple introduction without looking for urgent help.

More importantly for me was my 10th post (above) where even our owner was kind enough to rely to a suggestion I'd just made.

*BUT*, a lot of [especially inexperienced] M/Home owners will discover a problem that the 'dream holiday vehicle' suddenly presents, and then they realise just how complex the modern M/Home is, as the recent surge in Free Member 1 post wonders shows. If we reply in a helpful tone, and finish with a 'take out membership and get the Forum knowledge benefits for £20 a year', we can do no more. IMO, if someone freeloads, takes the answer and heads for the sunset, never to be heard from again, they are probably not the type of member we want - the strength of the Forum lies in everyone giving their knowledge and advice as well as taking other people's expertise

Many people only want to hear the answer THEY want to hear and not have anything else pointed out.
He had a wedding to deal with so couldn't come back earlier. Didn't you know that? Why aren't you a mind-reader and also checked his social diary to check availability?

Now a reasonable reply from OP could be "yup, bit rushed at the moment. sorry for lack of response" or whatever, rather than having a go at people not giving chapter and verse without even a initial intro

Reminds me when I bought something off an eBay seller a few months ago - over £100 spend it was - and after 3 weeks it was still not dispatched and the postage label not even printed ... When I queried it, the response was "I've got other stuff to do. Get a life". Obviously I should have taken that into account and just left it until he could be bothered to take a minute out of his precious time to send it.

Doubt the guy will be back except to moan and doubt he will be missed.

I reckon that Victron is good value if you are not doing DIY. Other brands may be cheaper, but if you are paying to have it fitted, paying a bit more for reliability and support is well worth it.

He was right. Without a grommet it is dangerous, possibly lethal. It does need a grommet.

They only cost a penny or two: you can cut the grommet to fit it, rather than remove and refit the cables.

I get the impression that you have an attitude problem. People here are not being paid to try to help you. Heck, you're not even subscribing to help support the forum, yet you want the replies to suit your unspoken agenda and unpublished timetable.

Perhaps some reflection is needed, maybe an apology.

Given that the cables and the inverter are both clearly visible in the photo, I'd suggest that is pretty bleeding obvious.

I agree with Ardchaidh 100% there are just Trolls with nothing better to do I certainly won’t be paying a fee, they don’t know the answer to your question so they talk rubbish like Geek trying to explain the earthing arrangement in a domestic property he calls something CPE what is that, also the earthing conductor is not connected to the neutral in a TNS system

This should be, and normally is, a friendly and helpful place to come. There’s enough conflict in the outside world so it would be great if we can just keep things friendly and welcoming in here. Plenty of confrontational sites to go to for those looking for unpleasantness I think.

You're really not helping yourself here mate. If you want help it's a good idea not to piss people off.
Your question is simple but the answer requires very specialist knowledge, I suspect a lot of actual qualified sparkies wouldn't fully understand the implications so a genuine helpful answer will probably involve technical terms, if you don't understand those technical terms then it's best to ask for clarification nicely rather than being a dick.

Neutral and Earth ARE connected together on a TNS system BTW just so you know.
Yep the S stands for separate, that refers to the neutral and Earth being separate all the way back to the source where they connect together.

We can't really tell if the 12v red and black cables are sufficient csa to handle the current from the picture. Some have thick insulation, and heaven forbid they may be the useless aluminium cables that come with the Renogy. Also we don't normally take all 2000W from the battery / ies unless we don't know what's watt.
Judging from the photos all I can say for certain is that a grommet is definitely needed where the wires run through the aluminium plate. I was driving a camper along the M3 towards a ferry when smoke issued from the dashboard. I screeched to a halt and shouted to wifey and children "Get out on to the hard shoulder". I reached under the dashboard, found a wire smoking and glowing red, grabbed at it with my hand and wrenched it until it snapped and the smoking stopped. Some idiot had added a radio (in the days when they were an extra) and run a wire straight from the battery +ve with no fuse, through a hole they had drilled in the bulkhead to the radio. They hadn't fitted a grommet so the metal hole rubbed through the insulation causing the 'fire'. It would have burnt out the campervan and we would have walked home instead of going to Europe for our holiday.
I doused my smoking hand in some water, put on a glove, disconnected the wire from the battery and we resumed our holiday and caught the ferry on time.
However, there is no way that you could snap those thick cables where they go through the aluminium plate so before wondering anything else I would fit a grommet in that hole, and personally I would 'dress' all the wires in a professional manner. That yellow ?230v cable looks a bit as if it came out of a bin somewhere. It is slighltly incongruous that the electrician has used Victron electronics - the most expensive and best - but not wired it safely, let alone professionally.
As for the OP not answering quickly, he was attending a wedding, so we can accept that as perfectly reasonable for not answering promptly so I hope he does not take umbrage, please keep in contact and keep posting your adventures @Big Steve . Sometimes on forums, someone comes along, posts a question and then disappears which is disappointing, but personally in this instance I can see why Big Steve didn't immediately come back.

I'm sorry that your arrogance is such that you tell me I'm wrong when I'm not. Frankly, this forum would be better without people like you.

The difference between TNCS and TNS is that the first has the neutral and earth connected in the substation, but the second has them connected in the premises.

Both have the earth connected to the neutral.

You do have a point about 'what is CPE?'. I can correct that: it's a typo. I meant to type CPC. In fact I think I did, but autoincorrect had a different opinion.
