I dont know and it does not really matter.

The link was for a device that stops the correct mileage from being recorded on a vehicle. This would mean that the vehicle would show less mileage than it it had covered. The only reasons I can think to do this is to save money on insurance by giving incorrect yearly mileage. To preserve the value of a motorhome by making it appear to have lower mileage, in this case the new owner is defrauded.

Either way not good.
 
I always check on motinfo before even going to look at a vehicle.

Thanks for clarification Phil, I hadn’t viewed the OP, nor know of such dodgy stuff out there, something to watch out for in the future 👍

No they are vw today and give trouble, the old rear engine ones were the best by miles, a few mods and they went for ever with no trouble.
What i found with them was the folk that bought them had not 2 d and did not service them and just drove them into the ground.
I still have 4 of them and loads of parts, anyone with 20grand can buy them of me. :)

I well remember the mod of putting a blanket over the engine in winter. A guy I worked with always had them and he did this as his wouldn’t start in real cold weather otherwise. That was back when we still got proper winters though. Quite a few times he would pull up at the clock box on night shift and we would run out shouting he was on fire. You would think he would remember to remove the blanket before setting off but it was a regular occurrence lol
 
Recently our son had a run in with Mercedes in Stockport over one of these gadgets.

It was fitted prior to him buying the van from a Mercedes dealership in Taunton and started to interfere with the electronics on the vehicle. A German car specialist garage local to him had a look at the car, because Mercedes reckoned they couldn’t do owt for at least a month. With the gadget removed everything came back to normal.

Turns out the mileage cheater didn’t have any effect apart from buggering up his onboard electronics.

Mercedes of Stockport proved themselves to be next to useless in all this by the way.

The problem was cold poor batteries, also you had to do a mod on the s motors as the windings came of the comutator, resolder on and wrap thin string round them then soke with epoxy.
In germany the post men in raf staions used them but took the battery in overnight to keep warm, i have driven many round the clock 2/3 times and no trouble at all.
